try cleaning the track ball with a qtip dipped in alcohol or nail polish remover.. It could be that the track ball isn't "reading" correctly due to oil, etc.
change the settings
in menu select applications --> select options --> select keyboard/screen --> change resolution sensitivity (vertical and horizontal) to 100% --> select menu --> select save
No, but fortunately the trackball is not hard or expensive to replace. If you are technically savvy you can do this yourself. Just purchase a trackball on the internet. The trackball easily comes off if you put a small flat screw driver under the outer side of the chrome ring and pull if off. Let me know if you needed more help. Good luck
Pop the ring around the track ball out with a small blade or your finger nail. Three double prongs hold it in place (bottom and both sides, none on top). Turn device over and gently tap the back. Track ball will release once ring is removed. At this point you can view the track ball and see exactely what is causing the block. Clean if needed with q-tip or remove lint/debris/etc... Just did this with my 8830. Working perfectly now. - {would not scroll down at all prior to}
Use a blowdryer of the keypad for about a minute, some buttons will start to work. Continue until all of the buttons are functional. Works like a charm.
Your track ball may simply be dirty. Get a q-tip wet with rubbing alcohol and rub your track ball and repeat until the q-tip stays clean. Hope this helps!
