Plug in AC cord, momentarily hear relays kick-in, Condensor & fan start and run aprox 30 sec's. Coil just begins too cool and coil begins to slightly heat on condensor side before turning off. This cycle repeats every few minutes.

Not on long enough to check cooling fan inside freezer. Dan

Since the coil begins to cool right away I tend to think the refrgerant is probably OK.
I set the thermostat control on #5 for frig & freezer - #7 being the highest setting possible. Yes, I believe the thermostat could be malfunctioning but seems to me not a sure diagnosis, such a short time passes I would think the thermostat circuit would have to be totally gone however, any other overload could shut down the on relays. I would like a test to determine which elements are envolved. Dan

I believe this is the answer at this point. Checking the PTC Starter and the OLP. Looking at the unit it looks like I will have to drop the pan from the bottom to get to these test points because the unit is attached to the compressor side and unaccessible in this position. Instead of proceeding with this I believe my time would be better served managing other parts of the business. If you or someone you know is willing to check this out further by coming here or by me bringing the frig to your location let me know. I can dolly it right in to wherever. I have it on a floor dolly right now for easier reach at the bottom. As soon as I here from you will accept your answer about 'next thing to do'. I had this in mind anyway from reading the manual. The PTC-Starter Asy is spot welded to the Compressor Case(that hold the thermistor). I can unplug this from Controller Circuit which also contains the 14 MF/250V Cap along side ckt bd and then ohm test betw 4 & 5. This would be checking Run Wndg, Start Wndg, & Thermistor in series - I get 4.2 Ohms. The OLP is situated below this and checks out OK. The OLP is connected to ("C" where Run&Start are tied together) on one side and return on the other side. Checking at #6 terminal when voltage is applied I read about 55 vac here at the Start Wndg or about a 65 volt drop from line voltage.

Hi have a nice day!
The thermostat cycles the refrigerator on and off. The refrigerator normally runs as long as the temperature inside the refrigerator is higher than the set temperature. If the temperature inside the refrigerator is cold enough and the thermostat still does not cycle off, the thermostat may be defective. If so, you need to replace it, because it cannot be repaired. If the thermostat is not defective, you may have a problem with the sealed (refrigerant) system, in which case you should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
good luck.

As normal operation of Compressor is impossible or poor, do the tests below:

1.Separate PTC-Starter from Compressor and measure resistance between No. 5 nd 6 of PTC-Starter with a Tester.

    Observation value is 115V/60Hz : 6.8ω±30%

IF the resistance value is 0ω (short) or ∞ (open), replace PTCStarter.

2.Separate OLP ( Over Load Protector) from Compressor and check resistance value between two erminals of OLP with a Tester.

    Replace if reading is open.

Download from here your service manual in pdf format to do a further check.

Read very carefully all troubleshooting procedure (pages 7 to 12 ) and replacement parts list (page 32 36).

NOTE: Replace parts only by part number and model number.

The coolent is gone i think u must recharge that coolent cylinder ...
...
as i think this might have happened due to the opening of the door for the many number of hours ..... due to this the coolent got evaporated .... there may also be any blockage in pipes which circulates the coolent .... if so if u get replaced with the new pipes ur problem will be solved ...

just take a technician & get filled with the gas to that ....
your problem will b solved ... this will not charge much ...

Sounds like a thermistat problem. Check its connections and replace the thermistat.

My Subzero Condenser fan runs constantly - but coils are clean

If it is similar to mine at home (Model 550) the condensor fan is designed to run continuously, even when both the freezer and refrigerator are shut off. There is no control or switch in the fan circuit, so it just runs whenever the fridge is plugged in to the wall. It uses about 56 watts.

Frigidaire Side By Side Not Cooling

That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while. Model number ARB2217CW Amana Refrigerator Bottom Freezer. The freezer is working fine but the fridge has stopped cooling. No strange noises, no frost, no water leaking--just not cooling at all.

I would check the circulating fan. This problem is very hard to diagnose because the fan spins but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and the frig.

Fan underneath frig is running but no cold air is coming into the frig or freezer

The fan that is under the frig is the condensor fan(the fan the cools the condenser coils and the compressor. It does not have a direct effect on the chilled air circulation inside of the frig. The evaporator fan is the unit that circulates the chilled air thru your freezer and frig. I am not sure what make model unit you have, but I have found that this fan motor is 90% of the circulation problems i have seen.

Maytag freezer don't freeze food or make ice

There could be several things causing the frig to be cold but not cold enough. First check thermostat control and air control. Both should be set in the middle setting for normal operation.Next check to see if evaporater fan is running in freezer. It should be running whenever compressor runs and circulates cold air inside frig as well as freezer. Next check if condensor fan motor is running. It blows air over condensor coils to remove heat. Last ,check condensor itself for dirty coils. If they are matted up with hair dust, etc. it will cause poor cooling. you can give thorough cleaning with vacuum cleaner. Hope this helps

REFRIG WILL NOT GET ANYTHING COLD

make sure there is no frost buildup behinde the freezer back panal and the ducts to the frig are clear. Leaving the door open will make a lot of frost and diminish the cooling capacity.
