Screen goes black and camera shuts off

My fairly new camera suddenly will shut off without retracting the lens. This happens after I've only taken one or two pictures. I've replaced the batteries twice

I have the same problem. Mine is also fairly new and shuts off after 1 or 2 pictures taken.......and yes.....I am using lithium batteries.

The batteries the camera came with worked fine. They juiced out fast, but I had no problems with the camera.

Then I replaced them with Duracell and those worked fine. After they went dead, I put, I think it was like Energizer or something. They didn't work, so I ran around the house and got every AA battery I could find, and the camera never worked. Some where Duracell, and then other where whatever.

I thought maybe they just didn't have enough juice, so I bought some new Duracell's and it worked. I used it for a very short time before it went dead again.

First the screen gets dark, but you can still see a ghost outline of what was previously on the screen. Nothing works, and if the lens is out, well....you know....oh well, cause your not getting it back in!

I will wait a while before trying it again, and it will turn on. I take a picture or 2 and it shuts off. I have even bought the rechargeable batteries, and they did't work at all.

I hope someone has a solution.

Are you using lithium batteries?

All Kodak cameras seem to have issues with alkaline batteries.

Although lithiums cost more, they work well and provide better value and performance than alkaline batteries.

Sanyo digital camera showing lens error 1114 or 112

Hi.

If your Sanyo digital camera is not starting and you get lens error 112 or lens error 1114 prompted on display, that means that the lens is getting stuck, and cannot extend or retract fully. The controller board detects the error on startup, and shuts down after displaying the error message.
This errors usually happen because of dirt, or because the lens mechanis mis damaged in consequence of a shock.

If lens does not retract, try helping the lens back, without putting too much strenght, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the lens does not extend, try tapping softly the back of the camera to help lens out, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the camera had been exposed to sand or dust, try blowing canned air on the lens.

If this does not work, the lens assembly must be taken apart completely and re-assembed, and for that you need a camera repair shop.

Also call the number listed on the owners manual to get support from the manufacturer.

Black screen; lens won't shut; totally not working now

Sound like the sensor or recoding electronics are bad. The camera is most likely beyond economical repair and I would buy a new one.

Samsun sl201 lens will not extend, then camera shuts down

If the camera's lens will not retract out, then eventually shuts down, here is what you try to do.

Hold the camera from your right hand with the lens facing down. Then tap the base of the camera to your left palm while turning the camara on; do this several times until the camera's lens retracts out.

This problem often occur when the camera was taken outdoor or in the beach. Sand or a tiny granule of dirt might got stuck in the base of the lens.

I have a sanyo camera 7.1 mega pink and everytime i try and take a picture my screen goes black and shuts off without the camera piece going back in! I have almost the same problem except when I take a...

In the first case, if the camera turns off by itself with lens not retracting, try fresh alkaline battery. If that does not work, then the ribbon cable from battery charger to mainboard inside the camera is probably causing the problem.
An internal contact can also cause same problem.

If instead pictures are completely black, then there are several possible reasons:

1 There is a setting problem, remove and put back batteries to fix the problem.
2 The camera curtain is stuck and it is not opening.
3 The CCD sensor is faulty, more likely the ccd sensor contacts are broken.
4 The lens assembly has an internal problem.

Apart situation 1 , in all the remaining cases the camera will need repair.

Regards.

Shuts itself off but lens won't retract

Have you initialized the SD card? Go to the set-up menu and initialize the card. Also check for a timed-shut-off option.

Try it with a different set of battery. It is possible that one of your battery is "dead" or close to it, and the camera shuts down.

You have to find the bad battery.

It worked for me.

Lens won't retract

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. Have already fixed two A400 cameras with this problem by using these methods:
