Same problem. Had to buy a replacement...the no-name brand works fine!

  • gipsy eve May 28, 2008

I bought the camera in aug 07 and used it through oct 07. Since then my charger does not charge the battery. When I plug it the red light flashes on and off. I've left it charginf overnight and... nothing. I took the battery and charger for inspection in a third party provider, and they tested both. Results were: battery unknown status as the charger is not transmitting the usual charge. They said I had to replece the charger and then if lucky it would charge the battery. If not I would have to buy both.

This problem is known. There is a way to fix it.
The fact that it blinks on and off means that the battery is completely out of energy. Thus, the charger doesn't "recognize" the battery.

To fix the problem, you need to give some energy to the battery. What I usually do is that I use a 9V battery (or any other source of power) and I link + and - of both the Casio battery and the 9V battery. You can use a paperclip as a link (you will use 2 paperclips, 1 between minuses and 1 between pluses).
Do that for 2 minutes and then charge your battery as usual. It should work !

Sorry if my English isn't accurate. I'm French.

My charger flashes red and the battery doesn't charge. I tried freezing it, it didn't do the trick. I then tried jump starting it with a 9v battery - to - and + to + for 20 seconds then 30 seconds that didn't work. However, I held the connection for about 45 secounds and that did the trick. The battery is now charging. I also called and they will be sending a replacement.

Your camera must be less than one year old to get the replacement battery. Otherwise, they recommend you purchase a new one, and when you don't plan to use the camera frequently, they recommend that you remove it from the camera a store it separately.

They sent me a new battery last month. It was very easy. However, the new battery now won't charge either (after one use). Very frustrating.

Not sure what to do next....

I bought an EX-Z75 and had the same problem. I simply called Casio, and they have sent me a replacement battery free of charge. I don't know as of now if this will correct the problem, but they said it was fairly common for the batteries to go bad while sitting on the shelf.

Every rechargeable battery deteriorates thoughout it's life of usage. may be it's time to buy a new one. Sometimes the terminals on the battery get in touch with metal things and short the circuits within.

My casio exilim ex-z75 is not working well, I think it may be a problem with the battery. the camera actually doesnt turn on. When I charge the battery, the charger light flashes red. I don't know what...

This often means that the battery is bad. It's a good idea to only charge the battery as long as is necessary, and to then remove the battery shortly after it is finished charging. This helps prevent from an over-charge on the battery which can damage the battery life.

Red light blinks when battery is in the charger. The battery is an NP-20 for my Casio EX-Z75. Is the battery dead?

Hi there, first i suggest you clean the battery & chager connection point. After that remove the charger power cable from adeptor & fix it back. Now charge. If you face the same problem then try to find a charger for your battery testing. If your friend have that then good for you. At least you can confirm that your battery is ok or not. Or go to buy for a charger and in shop you fix your battery . If you face the same problem then dont buy the charger just buy the new battery. I hope you understand what i mean to say. It will save you money & low risk. Thanks.

My Casio Exilim EX-S880 wont turn on. Battery is dead but the camera wont charge on the charger. The red charger light is flashing when then camera is placed on it. This red light used to stay on...

I found this while trying to solve my exact same problem.. It worked for me after about 7 times. Some other people on the site said it worked for them after 20 times. Good luck!

My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.

I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

The battery (NP-20) for my Casio Exilim EX-Z75 is not charging. The light on the charger is continuously flashing red; had for approx 1yr, no prior problems. Please help! I have the exact same problem...

Okay I just fixed this on my camera the same thing. First make sure your battery is charged. You will need to get a paper clip. Take the battery out and unfold the clip so that you can use it to pull up the contacts between the battery positive and negative and the camera. The conductors need to touch the positive and negative on the battery. If you battery is dead you will need to do this as it will not charge your battery on the cradle becaue there was no connection. over time I think that the battery loses its connection and the spring is not strong enough to push up the battery far enough. I ordered a battery charger and new battery and it still didnt work so I started to tinker with it. I held the battery with my finger pushing it up and holding it, and simaltaneuously powered on the camera. Thats when I figured it wasnt the battery but it wa the connection with the battery and the camera.

hope that helps

I have had an Exilim EX-Z75 for just over a year. Suddenly I'm having trouble charging the battery. No matter how long I leave it on charge the light keeps flashing and the battery is not charged. Do I...

Yes you need a new battery. I had the same problem almost exactly a year ago. You need to contact Casio and tell them the problem, they should send you a new battery free of charge. This is the proper number to call, 1 800 435 7732. Just tell them your battery charger is flashing red when you are trying to charge and they will send you a new battery.

EX-Z75 Camera Battery won't charge. Red light flashing

Red light flashing means faulty battery. You need to call tech support and they will replace the battery for you. Just make sure you tell them that it's been under a year since you purchased it. :)

I had the same problem, the charger kept blinking red when I attempted to charge the battery.
This morning I called casio and they are sending me a out a new battery free of charge, and i don't have to send the old one back. It only took about 10 minutes and they said I should get it in about a week or so. So hopefully this helps everyone who has the same issue as I did.
