GE Refrigerator Eva. Fan Motor

I have a GE Refrigerator Model Number: GTS22ICMARWW
and the evaporator fan motor is not turning on, It is a DC motor with 4 wires Red, Blue, Yellow/Black and White. The White is the common, Red says 12V, Blue says RPM and the Yellow/Black doesn't say anything. This is according to the paper I found at the bottom of the refrigerator. When I put a meter to it this is what I got: White to Blue - 4 volts
White to Yellow/Black - 13 volts
White to Red - 13 Volts

Is it safe to say that the Evaporator Fan Motor Is bad? This is the first ever refrigerator I've seen that has a circuit board as the brain with a DC volts evaporator fan motor........HELP!!!!!!! can you pls. E-Mail Me at : dean.ada@amedd.army.mil on your thoughts on why this motor is not turning on.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have a GE Model GTSWCPBRWW 2006 the fan motor AC/DC works after you turn the fan blades and if you stop it won't start back on it's own is that normal? The overall problem is the icemaker stopped working and now the frigde area is not cooling but freezer is working great. Any suggesting?

Your fan motor is bad cause you have the voltage input to your fan motor but still the motor is not operating. May be the motor winding is open, check the white and red resistance.

Try spinning the evaporator fan motor with your fingers. If the freezer door was left closd it may have rusted on its shaft and be stuck. We need to test the voltage going to fan if oiling its bearing and spinning byhand does not get it moving. Click Here for a service manual=> HERE and here=> GE Artica Test Sheet The fan motor or a relay on the motherboad may also be defective. You should get 12-13 volts DC at the fan motor, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fan moves slowly ,compressor still hot even with a portable fan blowing on condensor ,but temps are back to normal. What would cause the fan to blow slowly and there is no obsructions

Ralph78yanks,
Your condenser fan (fan motor by compressor) is a variable speed and controlled by a computer board and compressor speed. If the fan motor slows down and the compressor is running in high, the unit can over heat and cause temperature issues in refrigerator sections. GE has a program which can see actual fan RPMs of motor. As I research this incomplete model number (7 possible different models) I see they all use the same fan motor Part# WR60X10209, this is a DC motor. Make sure you fan has not melted also. The heat from the compressor can melt the should or blade when this motor fails. I hope this information helps you..

I have a ge sbs model pcp23shmffbs. the condenser fan motor is running slow, but turning freely. the fan motor is rated at 11.3 volts dc and supply to fan motor is only 6.7 volts. is the condenser fan...

If the motor is running, but running slowly, you will need to replace the motor. If there was a problem with the PCB, (control board) the motor would not run at all and you would see other problems with the refrigerator.
Here is a link to the motor.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have most likely found the problem being the evaporator fan is turning slowly. Most of the time if there is a voltage problem with and evaporator fan they just do not turn at all. I suspect that the fan bearings are dry and the armature is not turing full speed.

Sometimes you can lubricate the motor with a parrifin based oil and revive them. Most of the time on the white motors lubrication does not work as you can only lubricate one of 2 bearings due to the motor design.

Your evaporator fan motor is here: Detailed view

The Evvaporator fan motor voltage should be 120 VAC across the 2 fan motor wires.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

GE Refrigerator GSS201EPWW is making a loud noise

This is the fan motor making noise but the fan motor is probably ok. The main board supplies voltage to the motor and can cause it to make strange noises.

My gs model refridge evaporator fan wont run but has 13.6volts

If the volts are DC , then the fan motor is bad . If the volts are AC , then the main control board , behind the refrig , behind an 8 " X 10 " panel is bad .

GE SXS Fridge/Freezer

if the fan in the freezer compartment is not running theres a problem.
verify power to the fan motor, if present replace fan motor.
if not hopefully theres a wiring schematic/diagram so you could trace that circuit back to the control board and verify whether thats bad or not..
WR55X10942 - BOARD ASM MAIN CONTROL
generally though if the fan by the compressor is running the fan in the freezer should also be spinning and have power..
by the way, it states in the parts listing that it is a dc motor
WR60X10074 - Motor DC Evaporator Fan
hope this helps,
best of luck,

Evaporator fan noise. How do I access the evaporator fan motor to replace it?

Turn off the refrigerator. Remove the freezer shelving and bins. Remove the screws holding the rear panel inside the freezer. Repair or replace the fan motor.
You may also have to remove bin supports from the side wall to get the panel out depending upon your model. The model number posted is incomplete.
