I too notice the same icon on the display screen when the caera is pointed at a dark object. I have reset the camera twice and have gone through the menu 2-3 times. All settings are set how they were from the factory(normal/auto). It seems the camera is locked in the solarize setting although the PFX is off.

I have the same problem. Can not find manual. Does anyone know what the half sun symbolizes? When I use the video feature on the camera I don't have the problem

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Maria,
As long as the lines don't appear on the pictures (check the pictures on your computer) don't try to repair this. For opening a camera you need to have electronic skills and special tools. Then there still is a chance the defect can't be repaired without exchanging the display or even the motherboard. In both cases I think it is more expensive to repair then to buy a new camera. If you can live with the lines and they don't show up on the pictures, please don't try this yourself.
If you really want to ignore my advice, please visit ifixit.com and see if they already did your Samsung. There they show how to open and close most electronic equipment. They also sell the tools you could need and can help with spare parts. If they are for sale from Samsung.

White screen

This is a problem with shutter not fast enough opening to take a picture indoor shows the horizontal lines. In sun light it is too slow and over expose the picture. Not worth the trouble to fix, buy another camera?

How do you fix a canon power shot A70 whose ccd has been exposed to sunlight? My screen is blank. Will not focus on anything..

If the sensor has been exposed to the sun for a period of time unfortunately it will mean a new camera. I believe the price to replace a sensor is pretty close to getting a new camera.

The image will not display in the viewfinder when taking the picture. Picture does show after it is taken but can not see it when trying to take it.

You mean the LCD screen and not the viewfinder, right? That's the way the D60 works. Like other SLR cameras for over half a century, it offers a viewfinder (that's the little window at the back of the "hump") for framing and composition. The LCD screen is for review (looking at the picture AFTER you take it) and for menus. More recent DSLRs offer a LiveView capability where you use the screen for framing and composition. Nikon introduced this feater with the D3 and D300, released a year or so after the D60.
Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but there it is.

My LCD dose not display anything. If I take a picture nothing shows up at all only a black screen. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is about 2 and half years old. Please help and many thanks My shutter...

Unless it has recently been dropped or the screen cracked, the LCD power drive circuit has failed. Your batteries sound OK if it is taking pictures. 2 and a half years is not an unreasonable life for this camera. I would spend my money and time working toward a new one rather than repairs. Sometimes you can find one on Ebay for parts and may be worth a purchase but don't waste anything on a factory repair. Taking them apart and replacing components is not that difficult and procedures can be obtained online from digital camera REPAIR FORUMS.

Your display screen has probably been exposed to strong light. If so send your product back to the manufacturer or retailer and they should repair it absolutely free. If you are going to send your product back then I recommend you tell them that your product is faulty, by doing this you could get a whole new camera. It worked for me when my camera was playing up.

Stopped taking pictures . . .

When previous pictures display fine but does not take new one directs the problem to camera mode problem. Some component is at fault in the main board which controls menu functions and display is damaged. For the solution, the main board is repaired or replaced by technician. The repair cost may run between $100 to $200 in US.
