SQL CE Database(.sdf) on device Unicode Character...

By Cato - usenet poster

Hi,

Greetings!

I'm having this problem of unicode character on my PPC which uses SQL
CE database. When i fire a query from query analyzer, the thai language
is not displayed but instead of that it is replaced by "square
brackets". Becoz of this, my app which uses list view control or tree
view control displays the "square brackets" instead of thai characters,
but the surprising thing is combo box and list box controls and text
box controls displays thai properly.

Any idea how to resolve this one? The data comes properly on my server,
when i use the desktop query analyzer. I also checked the database
collation of my server SQL which has THAI_CI_AS,

Any help appreciated..

Thanks and Regards,
Dilip

Update:

I got it working, actually the problem was that Thai language CD's
license expired, i formatted my PPC and reinstalled the app, db and
thai language and everything works now.

Dilip

Arun, Thanks for getting back.

I didn't set any specific font on my combobox and listbox controls.
They use the default ones. I tried many things like setting up font for
listview to "Angsana new" (thai font) but that too didnt work.

Initially, I tested on Audiovox PPC4100 which showed me the same
symptoms..Then i had tried on ASUS P505. In this model, the listview
control worked fine and thai chars were being displayed, but since last
3 days, even on my ASUS model, thai fonts on listview control are not
being displayed. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app and
sqlce.cab files, but no luck.

I have one question here - Why the data in SQL CE when viewed through
query analyzer from PPC displays "square brackets" instead of thai
language? I tried creating a new db on device with "Thai" collation and
then replicated the data again, but still no luck..

Anyway, thanks. Let's see if there's some other workaround.

Dilip

Surprisingly you have combobox and listbox working properly, so you
have Thai fonts installed on your PPC.

Check whether you have the fonts set to all the controls are similar.
Might be you can try to set all the controls to the default.

Always try with devices you have. You have not mentioned anything
specific about the device or the PPC version. Pocket PC is software
platform from OEM sits over WinCE so try with a different device or in
different PPC versions and please let us know how it works.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Arun.
