* & backspace keys not working keys

hi,

these 2 keys are at either ends of the keyboard & both stopped working simultaneously yesterday.

particularly a problem as to unlock the phone, you need to press * followed by the green phone button!! basically, I can switch it on, input my PIN but can't go any further!
