You either have: 1) a false positive on your battery, meaning that they aren't really charged even though they say they are (especially common the older a battery gets), or 2) the battery connection is faulty/dirty, while the AC adapter is fine. If the AC adapter uses the battery port, then the battery is your problem.
the charge light flashing means the battery is damaged or very dead .. some charger will not initiate charging if the voltage gets too low ..thats a safety feature ... if those are the original batteries then they are past due for replacement anyhow ..
Have you tried another battery?
Even the lithium ions will eventually not hold a re-charge.
If the unit stays on with external power, there is a good possibility that a new battery will solve the issue
Get another battery and try charging it. You should have a second, backup battery anyway. That should narrow it down between the charger and the battery as to which is defective. How old is the camera? It may be a better investment to put the money into a new camera. Also, look on EBay for a new charger if you find that it is the problem. There are many third-party manufacturers of chargers and batteries that work fine and cost much less.
So far, I haven't had this happen with my CD1000. I have had the camera and two batteries since two years ago last October. The charge times are definitely less these days, but I don't lose the charge totally.
You might want to check this site http://www.mavican.nu and see if anyone there has had this problem. It is more directed at Mavica users (although many have other Sony cameras as well). There is a guy there who fixes these Mavica cameras, perhaps he may have an idea for you. Good luck!
Hi,please ask Fixya for the site of WELCOMEJEE,I have similer problems with my 83,mine shows full charge at times ,and low battery and shuts down at other times.
He says that it could be a Battery Fault, even if it shows Full Charge as batteries can be Faulty, please ask Fixya about WELCOMEJEE,regards,Walt.(rtd.)
I don't know how long the battery lasts if you use the flash with every picture, but I do know that the CD400's battery charger can take 110 or 220 volts so you will be able to charge it in France with only a plug adapter.
