Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

Washing machine won't drain, pump stuck

If your washing machine won't drain and, the pump appears to be stuck:
Go to an autoparts store and, buy a radiator locking hose pinch off plier. Then: unplug the washer (remove all power) bail out all the water with a cup or, bowl; remove the washer cabinet or, tilt back the washer against a wall so that you can access the pump from underneath the front; pinch off the tub to pump hose; lock the plier, place a towel under the pump; remove all screws on the pump cover; remove the blockage from the pump and, reattach the pump cover. remove the pliers and, test the washer. (if you can acces the pump from the front (like a front load washer) you do not need to bail out the water as, the pliers will hold the water in the tub, so that only a small amount of water will come out when you open the pump.)

stopped in mid cycle. Lights on panel flashing and says "PF"

You have a "drain waterpump fault" To fix this the pump must be dis-assembled and, the obstruction blocking the pump impeller must be removed. First obtain a radiator hose pinch-off plier and, a hoseclamp plier from an autoparts store; place the hose plier on the pump hose just below the tub and/or, just above the pump. squeeze the plier until it locks closed; this will pervent the water in the tub from draining when you remove the pump cover. using a screwdriver open the pump and, remove the obstruction in the pump: be sure to cover the floor under the pump, with rags to catch any water still left in the pump.

wont drain tank

HI, this is a sure bet that the impeller in the pump housing is damaged. that sound you are hearing is the impeller. the drive shaft has stripped the impeller. You will need to replace this damaged pump asap if possible.
