When bleeding brakes have good pedal with engine off. with engine running pedal goes almost to the floor what is wrong

can you here a hissing sound when you push the brake while its running? if so then you have a bad brake booster, need to replace it, the hissing is actually the vacuum that builds within the booster escaping thru the seal in the booster

2001 ford escape makes a hissing and high pitched squealing sound when the brake pedal is released?

You need to have the brakes inspected. This noise is the brake pad wear warning tab hitting the brake rotor.;

Brakes spongy after shop replaced rotors braked pads on 2001 buic

Sounds like air is still in the brake lines, the air sound that you hear is the power assist, but the brake pedal needs to be "high and hard".

if the pedal goes to the floor, that is not good. Sometimes, when pumping brakes for bleeding purposes, the master cylinder gets damaged, as the piston goes past it's normal "travel zone" and gets damged on deposits.....

Now, with that being said, if everything was perfect, brakes are typically not as firm after replacement, due to differences in new pads/shoes and old rotors and drums. Pedal to the floor, however, is never okay.

I own a 2005 Escape and am having a problem with my brakes. This problem started recently and came on suddenly. When you apply the brakes you can feel them start to engage, then they seem to disengage so...

Check your brake fluid level because it sounds like you are losing pressure, possibly a leak. If work has been done to your front brakes recently they may not have bled them properly. Behind your brake caliper you will see a thin hose leading into a nut. You can bleed your brakes though this but don't attempt unless you are familiar with hydraulics and fluid pressures due to safety concerns.
