MOST LIKELY NEEDS NEW BOARD , THERMOSTAT , TRANSFORMER , MAYBE FUSE ON THE BOARD AND
CHECK FOR WIRE BREAKS AND PROPERLY CONNECTED WIRES
AND IF IT STOPS THAT SUDDENLY THE COMPRESSSOR MAY
BE BAD SO CHECK FOR A GROUND OR TRIPPED BREAKER, AND
BURNT WIRES..CHECK FOR SIMPLEST 1ST. NARROW IT DOWN
AND MAKE SURE OUTSIDE UNIT IS RECEIVING POWER AND
CHECK CAPACITOR. LOOK AND CHECK FOR DISCONNECTED WIRES INSIDE AND OUT.

1993 Mercedes 400sel air conditioner dose not work where is the fuse or relay located? the heater works fine.

the air conditioner requires the ac compressor to work and it that is not working then the condenser fan will not switch on
reasons include lack of gas ( leak)
blockage causing high head pressures
there will be a fuse in the engine compartment fuse block
best advice is to take it to an accredited ac specialist shop , have the problem properly diagnosed and get a quote

When you switch to defrost or the air conditioner, the vehicle shuts down completely

Does it shut off, like the electrical system shuts off and the engine slowly stops (the same as when you turn off the ignition)? Or does it stop abruptly and with a noise, like a squeal or thunk? If it is the former, then it is a short (or bad ground) in your air conditioning system. If it is the latter, then, yes, it could be the compressor bearings are seized.

Air conditioning is not engaging when button is pushed to turn on.

Air Conditioner No air coming from air conditioning vents
  1. Check the air conditioner fuse and replace as necessary.
  2. Air conditioner system discharged. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by an MVAC certified technician, utilizing approved recovery/recycling equipment. Repair as necessary.
  3. Air conditioner low pressure switch defective. Replace switch.
  4. Air conditioner fan resistor pack defective. Replace resistor pack.
  5. Loose connection, broken wiring or defective air conditioner relay in air conditioning electrical circuit. Repair wiring or replace relay as necessary.

2000 Ford Taurus-- Heater not working.

what you need to do is check that your relays are OK
in some cars you cannot see through the relay like a fuse
the only way to check if it is the relays is by replacing them
if this dose not work and you have a electronic climate control system your controm box may be burnt out this will need replacing

Will not shut off

Sounds like a stuck relay on the unit itself. Maybe there is a short in the control wire that comes from the thermostat that activates the fan.

The thermostat probably has one hot wire at all times. The thermostat then chooses which wire to send the voltage down based on your selection. One of those wires is probably for the fan only. Make sure that it is in good condition (no bare, pinched or wires)

Fuse blows when air conditioner is turned on

there is a loose ground and or wrong size fuses for the air
if loose ground you will want to have a certified mechanic trace the grounds back to source
i dont think it could be relay but there is a way to check this
find the relay panel in the engine compartment open it
find the relay that says air conditioning
pull it out
now there are numbers on that relay
in that same relay box theres relays about 6 to 8 of them that look similar to the air conditioning relay
this is where the numbers come in if the numbers match switch with other relays
mark the air conditioning relay with black marker or nail polish so you know which relay is which
if its the relay thats bad the new relay from the relay box put in its place will work fine
put the old one back in the slot where you took out the other relay out of and then proceed to dealer to purchase new relay for your vehicle if the relay was the problem
