Most printers these days use a universal USB cable. Any brand will do, but preferably gold-plated for the best connection. The square plug goes into the printer, and the usb end into your computer. The cable should be ideally 12 feet long to suit most offices.

Don't believe the stereotype about blondes being dumb. Here is a link for software and manuals for your printer. These are for WinXP. If you need the driver it is listed under software. Under guides and manuals you will find three including a quick start, setup and full manual. I advise downloading all three. YES, they have pictures. If you need Vista just add a comment and I'll come right back and show you where to find it although you can find it at same site. Good luck blondie. If you need more help just ask. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10238#DownloadDetailAct

I lost my instructions to hook up my printer to my computer i have a canon mx310.. i need to know which phone cord goes into the computer and printer?????

I hope this installation/setup guide will help you [Click Here]. If I am right, you don't need a phone cord to connect the printer and the computer, but a USB cable. If it's in case of Fax, you would need the phone cord to connect the line to the printer/fax machine.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Installation

Is where you can download your drivers to install it (after entering your operating system IE Windows XP or Vista). In addition to this you will require an A to B USB Cable (can be found in any computer store). You will also need a standard 2 pin power cord. These are common and are used on many things from stereos to printers. Any printer or computer shop should have some laying around (we have thousands here). Finally you will need to see if there are any ink cartridges in the printer (and if there are whether or not they work). If not then you will need to purchase a Canon PG-40 Black Cartridge and a Canon CL-41 Colour cartridge. This will be your last step though as you won't be able to test your cartridges until it is hooked to your computer.

Good Luck.
