when i first turn on the dryer, it squeaks for about 30 seconds then stops, this is a maytag dryer that is about twenty years old.

We have the same problem. Particularly aggravating because we live in a small condo - no escape from the squeaking!

The dryer needs a service you need to replace the front rollers, jockey pulley and grease the jockey pin, check or replace the belt.remove the lint build up from the front frame and element assy.also check that the felt and rubber seal arond the front frame hasnt come out.you can replace it but its hard to get in and you may have to replace the front frame.i find its any easy repair but i see a lot of asko dryers (not because there bad they just need a service about every 5-7 years).hope this helps.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The squeaking sound comes when the belt is either broken or worn out and needs replacement or the idler pulley is bad. If you want to do this yourself then you can check this video on YouTube:

Our dryer was making a loud squeaking noise for a while now it is tripping the circuit breaker as soon as it is started what do you think is our problem.

The drum rides on a bearing in the rear which cause the squeal. The squeal eventually cuts into the bearing and the whole drum begins to rub against the heating element. This causes the breaker to trip.

My Asko stacking dryer makes a small squeaking noise

Hi, Check for the following:
  • Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time

  • Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

  • Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

  • Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

If you have a condensate tank that fills up too much the float inside the pump housing will shut the dryer off also.

Dryer squeaking & Clunking noise

Your particular unit has quite a few things that could be making a real loud noise.....The idler pulley, blower wheel, rear drum rollers, front drum glides. Bottomline is you have to get in there and take the unit apart..vacuuming while there and if the unit is making such a noise, it will be obvious where the problem is.....If I can help further, I am here.......

They could cause the noise. Call a repairman, because whenever you are dealing with gas, there brings a whole host of other issues to the forefront.

Squeaky dryer

Depends how technical you are. More than likely it is the rollers (depending on who made the Kenmore). Go to www.apwagner.com and you can get the parts there. Or if you are unsure about taking it all apart, call for service.
