Your defrost timer, defrost thermostat and defrost heater need to be checked.
The heater and thermostat are inside the freezer behind the back freezer panel.

Where is the defrost timer on a magic chef refrigerator

The defrost timer for your model is located in the fresh food compartment. Providing the model number above your post is correct. The part number for your defrost timer is 61005388
You can visit my sites if you like and enter part or model number to get the models or parts you need. If you need help or need answers let me know.

Our Magic Chef fridge model # MCBR1000W does not seem to be keeping the fridge part cool enough, but still keeps the items in the freezer section frozen. The compressor is working, so not sure why this is...

yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

MAGIC CHEF MCBR1000W

Had trouble finding a diagram with this model # but most common defrost problems are bad defrost thermostat, timer/control board, or a little more rare is the defrost heater.
