When i turn on my NEC LT30, it trys to start op, but after 30 sec. it goes to standby mode and the status indicator is blinking red. According to the troubleshooting in the manual, the problem is: "Lamp Error" "Lamp fails to light. Wait a full minute and then turn on again".
But this dosen't seem to work at all no matter how many minutes i wait. I've also tryet to press the "Power ON" button in 10 sec. to reset the lamp. But with no luck. The lamp dosen't seem to be broken at all when i look at it.
We have had this problem with two of these. The first one was repaired by replacing the ballast board (NEC P/N 03N-10-0763), but the second one must have other problems, as replacing this part did not help.

According to NEC technical support, if the status light flashes red six times, this could indicate a defective lamp.
If a new lamp is installed and the project still won't turn on, the projector will
The NEC’s work on a reducing time basis, they count the hours that they have been operational and refer to this as the life of the bulb – 1600 hours. When the 1600 hours has been reached the projector shuts itself down into standby mode never to be restarted even after changing the bulb / filters. This is because the unit needs to be reset, which needs to be done as follows (not included in any of the bulb replacement instructions):-
Plug Projector in so it is in standby mode – Orange light lit, Red status light lit (not flashing)
Using the remote control, hold down the power off button for 30-45 seconds
This will reset the status button, removing the red light
Power up the projector and select Menu
Select Projector Options
Select Set-up – a number of tabs will appear called pages
Arrow across the pages (MT850 is Page 5) until an option called “RESET LAMP HOURS” is shown
Move onto this option and press enter on the projector itself, confirm that you want to reset the counter
Projector is now back to life
This works for all NEC projectors, the page number may be different though where the “RESET LAMP HOURS” option resides.
I had this same problem with 2 NEC VT595 projectors. My problem was that there was a broken "tab" on the lamp cover (the plastic cover that slides in place over the lamp) that is supposed to depress a switch which insures the lamp cover is in place before operating the projector. The tab was broken in half and not making the connection there for causing the blinking status light (.5 sec on, 2.5 sec off) indicating a lamp housing or cover error.
Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.
If your bulb finally reaches it's end before you have the chance to replace it you unit will shut itself down and go into a permanent standby mode. Changing the bulb alone will not remedy the issue. The solution is quite simple but not posted in the manual or anywhere else that I could find for that matter! All that is required is to hold down the HELP button on your remote for 10 seconds while aiming at the infrared sensor on the unit. This will reset the units bulb timer and remove it from the standby mode.
