Sounds like the compressor has gone out. Unless you can find a slightly more powerful starter capacitor that will be compatable. But then again, how long will that last you? My thought is, either have the compressor replaced or buy a new refrigerator. I am sorry for the bad news.

My GDM-12 is not cooling. when I turn the temp up it make a loud humming sound.

If the humming last 3-5 seconds then makes a faint click sound and stops humming for a minute or two. Then resumes the hum again it may be your compressor locked down. Stuck. Most likely it is just a bad start capacitor not kick starting the compressor. A $6 part.

Maytag refrigerator Model mff2557heb wont cool

The compressor in your refig is bad. whats happening is when you let the compressor cool down it will run for a while then it starts binding internally until it gets to the point of humming and clicking. only repair is replacing the compressor. sorry for the bad news...

Frige is 7 years old making clicking sounds by the comprasser freezer not staying

Usually the clicking sound in that area is the start relay for the compressor. It could also be influenced by a bad start capacitor.

If the compressor does kick on and operate, then it is probably operational, but it could be low on freon.

If that is the only indication you have then, I would check the capacitor to make sure it isn't leaking and then replay the relay and see if everything starts operating again.

It will not cool and it doesn't sound as if the compressor is kicking. in it just hums when you turn up thermostate.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

I have a Maytag side by side refrigerator when it is very hot and humid days, it stops working. The relay makes the noise every few minutes. It tries to start but then stops. After 24 hours, it will start...

Hi, When changing the relay the capacitor should also be changed... also the motor could be getting hotter on hot days causing longer run times and then the overload kicks out....that should also be changed but some compressors have the overload internally and they cannot be changed... do not know if that is the case for you... anyway the bit of extra heat can easily be the difference between it working or not...try to get more air flow around the compressor by pulling the fridge out from the wall a bit on hot days.

Refrigerator is not cold (50);freezer is working; vents not blocked. What can I do? Fan is working, & compressor does kick on.

Nine out of ten times it turns out to be a defrost issue. What most people dont understand is the refrigerator gets its cool air from the freezer. If the evaporator coil in the freezer becomes a block of ice then the airflow from freezer to fridge section is blocked. The block of ice along with already frozen foods in the freezer compartment help to keep those foods frozen. Therefore you assume the freezer section is fine. However, the lack of cool airflow to the fridge side quickly turns that 38 degree air into 50 degree air. You could try unplugging the fridge and leaving doors open for 24 hours, this will thatw the evap coil. Plug it back in after the 24 hours, and within 12-24 hrs everything should be cool. If the fridge continutes to cool for about 3-6 days and then fails again, you certainly have a defrost problem. This is long winded, but hope it helps

Is my compressor must be replace?

The easiest way for you to find out is to bear the expense of buying the start relay/overload assembly mounted to the pins of the compressor, along with the run capacitor. If this starts it and runs with low amps, like 1-3, you're likely safe. Don't buy food for 24 hours. Sometimes the compressor won't seize again for hours afterward if it has been allowed to cool down before replacing relay.
