Phillips go gear will not charge up now. it only turns on when linked to pc but does not charge or show up on the pc. It gives a battery low on display but nothing else functions. i have tried the sort reset which does nothing
My dad has the 2gb GoGear player and at first, when you plugged it into the computer it would just give you the battery screen saying it didn't have enough juice to connect. So then I had to find the AC charger (guess what, couldn't find it). I ended up using a Kodak digital camera AC charger of the same specs. Now, I have charged it for the recommended 4 hours and I at least don't get the battery screen when I plug it in, but it won't boot past the Phillips splash-screen. I can hear the HDD making a clicking-like noise accompanied by a constant very-very high pitched electronic noise every 2 or 3 seconds like the lens is re-aligning or searching or thinking or something. It repeats the clicking noise precisely 9 times before all the noise ends and the Phillips splash-screen remains on screen until you do the Play+ Volume (+) key sequence to turn off the unit. I have no other ideas as to how to solve this unless I find one on a tech support site. I think this is a matter of a hard-drive failure. I also didn't mention that this was price-reduced refurbished unit that has a sticker with a new serial number on the back. Plug the headset into a powered USB port with an USB charging cable. » LED turns white during charging and turns off when the headset is fully charged. Tip • Normally, a full charge takes three hours.
Hi,
You have to replace the battery. Normally the EKG and ECG works in battery even the mains is connected. If you check the battery it will show the specified voltage written on it. But when the machine start this voltage will drop. At this time the machine will show low battery and then switch off. when the battery is damage if you charge it for a few day then also it will not get charge. Replace the battery will solve the problem.
ok
This is a common problem with these players (first link). My MP860 failed in this way (insufficient voltage etc message)
I made a rig with laboratory PSU (several amp output) connected to USB socket and I know that that the problem has nothing to do with voltage (voltage was stable 5V - tested also higher up to 5.5V)
For a while a trick with holding the volume up button worked for me. (see second link) But once I discharged the battery to a too low level and the trick did not work anymore.
My conclusion is that that message indicates Li-ion battery degradation and charger circuit/FW declines to charge it showing misleading message. (battery made by Foxlink)
I tore my the player open and rigged charge circuit and get it working again.

Few suggestions:
1. Never allow the battery to be fully discharged. Charge at any opportunity you have.
2. Once you get the Insufficient input voltage message try trick with holding volume adjustment.
3. If 1., 2. failed rip it open and make charging circuit or replace battery.
4. Do not buy Transcend MP3 players. (?)

I have a phillips go gear 8 MGB.numbers on inside of mp3 is 4901v3.68 and sstm12 080929 . I have tried reset & charging it but nothing will make it turn on. I spent alot of money on this thing for it to work a short period of time. What can I do???????????
If neither of them work, then that would suggest something common to both... the Charger? Are you sure it is OK? Is it making good connection, give them a clean/scrape. Otherwise it could be dicky batteries, they go faulty all the time & for no apparent good reason.
Hi, i think the battery has completely run down, i suggest you get another battery and ensure you don't allow the new battery to completely run down before yo charge.
As`soon as it shows low battery, you try charge or shut down to save and give your battery long life span.
when you plug the power cord check and see if the battery shows that its charging ,if the charge level is low allow it to charge fully ,after its fully charged remove the power cord and see if it will go of again .if it goes off then you know the battery is dead if not it might be of low charge or not properly fixed.hope this helps
Change your AC charger. It's NOT charging "When the laptop is plugged into the AC, the power meter in windows
tells me that the power source is still batteries, and the battery
level drops by about 1% every few hours" That's the reason why: "battery has completely died" If you do not change it you'll continue to "still it gives me the same low battery indication and will not turn on.
"
The freezing at 87% suggests hardware malfunction, but you can try all of the "soft" fixes to be sure -
Triple Reset for GoGear: Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.
After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player.
Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

Make sure the GoGear is disconnected from the computer first. Hold in the volume + button, and continue to hold the volume + button as you reconnect the GoGear to the PC. Once connected, after continuing to hold the volume + button for up to 60 seconds, Windows will go into recovery mode and resuscitate the GoGear.
