We are seeing the same problem. Patched the SCSI as it appears that it was out of date the LSI patch will not take.

Running RAID 1 on the Perc SCSI on the system. The Orange light is blinking on the box, but when I watch on reboot no errors. (and the lights on the drives are fine)

There is one interesting message about NVRAM etc and says flushing cache on SCSI (is that an error?).

I have built out at least 20 server installs. Have never hit this kind of "ghost in the machine issue"

An occasional BSOD on Sever 2003 that tells little more than a hex dump (which I am not skilled enough to read).

Is there an error message that appears? can you check error logs? I need more information to be able to help you. I would first try to blow dust out of the fans, as it may be over heating, another possibility is that there is software on the machine that is causing it to shut down.

Dell Poweredge 840 shutdown automatically

This error mostly comes with the failure of processor fan, overheating of processor shuts down the system due to processor's protection. You need to check the fans and replacement is recommended.

1 if some hardware problem is there. so check any yellow/organge colour led is glowing in the server which indicates hardware failure.if it under AMC then get it checked with vendor.

2 when there is some problem with the OS.

2 when the surrounding temp of the server is very high.

Are there any programs available for maintenance on a Dell Poweredge 1800 (registry cleaner, etc)?

Ccleaner is a good application to use on servers and pc's alike. it is free and can be downloaded from it has a registry scanner that will find and repair registry errors. I work for a hospital IT company and we use it all the time.

No power on my PowerEdge 1800 Server

dells power supplies must come from dell. I would call dell and give then the service tag number of your server and they will be able to tell you about how much a power supply is.

Dell PE1800 psu wont swith off...Computer powers down but psu fan continues to run. Have to pull the power plug to shut it down.

Sounds like the PSU is overheating. Some PSU's are designed to keep the fan running to cool it down even after system shut down. I would let the fan run after shutdown to see how long it takes to shut itself off. If there are no environmental issues tat are causing overheating you might want to consider replacing the PSU.
