IBM has farmed out their Notebook/laptop business to a company named Lenovo. They also have excellent support. I recommend that you follow this link I have provided for you: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/homeLenovo.do Once there on the right side you will find "Auto-Detect" select this, state your specific problem and Lenovo will do all the work. You might have to download some drivers or update your system, but you will be in the right spot. Good Luck
The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.
When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it
This could be a problem, not sure if its a software related or if the hard drive is bad. If you can find a windows xp cd. Try and wipe out the hard drive and install windows xp on it. If it goes thru then you'll just need the drivers. If it errors out on you then you know its a problem with the hard drive and you'll need to replace it.
If you get windows xp installed on it, let me know and I'll help you with the drivers.
If you know the password, enter the BIOs. At start up you should see that option briefly displayed. It will prompt you for the password. Once its entered, you can do what ever you'd like.
There are "three different password groups" on your machine. POP, HDP, and SVP (Power on, Hrd drive, Supervisor). If you don't know "either the HDP or especially the POP", there is nothing you can do except buy an new MB or HD. There is not short cuts.
Hopefully you have the passwords and you'll be OK.
