It will be the firewall on the router. You need to set it top standard, which will allow you connect your ps3 to the internet.

Hooking up wireless on ps3 and when I put the wpa key in it doesn't work what is the wpa key

This key code is found on your router.
It is the wireless security code.

You need to go to your router manufacture website and get information on how to get to your routers homepage via windows.

Once at the routers homepage find your wep or wpa key and enter it into your ps3.

Can not connect wireless to my new PS3

Well, in the meantime I had looked around online and a lot of folks said you have to wire connect it via ethernet cable to get the system updated first as there were some bugs with the wireless. I did that and that did the trick! Hooked up super easy after that.

Are you using encryption for your wireless network? You really should, if you're not doing that. Anyway, I had some trouble getting mine to work w/ WEP encryption on my D-Link 524. I tried all possible combo of settings w/out doing a full manual setup, but I just couldn't get it to work w/ my simple, existing 64-bit WEP setup -- and seems like lots of people on the net had trouble w/ WEP setup and eventually tried something else. I ended up trying WPA-PSK encryption instead and went full manual on the setup (w/ manual IPs, subnet mask, etc), and that worked on first try -- not sure if WPA + auto setup for the rest would work equally well. So if you're using WEP, you might want to try switching to WPA instead, assuming your other wireless computers/devices can handle WPA.

BUT before you try anything else, you should make sure it at least works fine w/ encryption turned off. You don't want to go through lots of trouble trying different things if there's something more fundamentally wrong between your router and the PS3. You might also want to update your PS3 to the latest software before trying to get an encrypted setup to work again. That's what I did.

Let us know how it goes -- I'm sure there will be other PS3 owners who might become interested.

Hope that helps...

Says need to update encryrtion key

Hi there,

It sounds like you changed the password for your router's WEP or WPA security key. You need to go into the Network Settings on your PS3 and set up a new internet connection. Once you do that it will ask you for your new WPA or WEP security key.
Hope this helps.

Error 80023017 can not go online

Greetings Dave Dua.

Check your wireless internet settings. More likely than not, this is whats keeping you from going online. Make sure you access point for your router is strong enough to reach the TV. Also make sure if you have a WEP or WPA for your router, that you correctly input it into the ps3 Wireless setup.
Thank you for using FixYa! =)

Cant get online through sky broadband

Wii Error Code 51331 means there is a problem with wireless security.
Make sure your router’s WEP/WPA (one or the other not both)key matches the WEP/WPA Key you entered in the Wii.
If you double checked the WEP/WPA key with the router and the Wii and they match, but you still receive the Wii Error Code 51331, then MAC filtering may be enabled in the router. You will have to add your Wii’s MAC address to the router’s allowed list. You can do this by logging into your router and going to the “access control, access list, or network filter” settings.
If you still have trouble with Wii Error Code 51331, try changing the wireless router’s channel to 1 or 11.

The wep key is the password that you set on your router. You MUST have this password to go online.

Im trying to set up my playstaion 3 to play online, it is asking me for a WEP key or a WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK key and i haven't got one on my home hub.

If you are connecting through a standard ethernet cable you should not be getting this question. However, if you are trying to connect through wifi it is best to check your router/hub to make sure there is no preset factory wep or wpa key
