If its based on an intel 915 family chipset, it would not support any of the newer core processors.

Lookin to upgrade from dual core 4400 2.30ghz to higher what would be best?

I am taking it that since you had a dual core 4400+, your using a AM2 motherboard..
Bout the best you could do with that board is find another dual core, perhaps an AMD FX70 or FX62. Unfortunately AMD is not keeping up with intel , they sorta failed with the quad core.
If your smart, you'll save till you get enough to jump a couple levels and replace the ram, cpu and motherboard.

Cpu to support sse2

Highest model cpu your board can support is the AMD Athlon XP model 3200. This is not a dual core cpu. You would need to upgrade to a newer motherboard in order to use a dual or quad core cpu. Hope this helps.

Uppgrade to a faster processor?

Hi
Pentuim D is a processor that has 2 x cpu in one and a core 2 duo has 2 cpu's plus 1 smart core bigger cache
you can only upgrade to a E2140 or E2180 processor on that motherboard
OR replace the board with a newer type

If you want to work the actual speed for the processor of a dual core take the speed for example dual core 1.8 x 2.1 =3.78 GHz
Core 2 Duo  1.8 x 2.4 = 4.32 GHz
