A back door to recover the system With the power off, switch hold to on (and leave it on) and press and hold the record button on the left side. Now turn on your Sansa while still holding the record button. The unit will power up in recovery mode. Now connect to your PC. A folder 16mbFORMAT will appear under 'My Computer'. Call SanDisk technical support for the most up to date firmware files.1-866-SanDisk

Cant get passed recovery mode

this came from another post on fix ya.

For me the solution was this:
After entering the recovery mode (turn off the player, move the hold button to the right, and press the on and rec button, then connecting to the computer).
when the 16 mb folder opens create a NEW FOLDER (not a text document) called "Sansa.fmt". then disconec the usb and it was fixed.

I had the same issue I think to switch to recovery mode you lock the keys and hold the record button as you turn on the player. The only place I know of the get the firmware is the official website.

Recovery mode is used to recover from a fatal error.

Follow these steps and youll be back in business.

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Best of Luck.
