ok you do not have a bad chip - check you keyboard settings I have both an American keyboard and English upgraded, but like the keys where they were (English settings so i have English keyboard with an American keyboard therfor to get it back (tell me if I am correct please).
go to start In Win XP, to change the keyboard languages and layout, click Start , then choose Settings, Control Panel, and Regional and Language Options. Click the "Languages" tab, then the "Details" button, I hope this helps

I had this same problem, what it is is your computer keyboard default is set to English USA. If you go into control panel, then into your language settings, then the tab that is for keyboards (I'm running Vista but they're all about the same) check the box that says English UK, then clickthe apply icon, this should set your keyboard to English UK and sort the problem.

A bad chip on the keyboard usually causes this problem. Replacing the original keyboard with a new one is the best thing to do

Try shift/ctrl. pushing those buttons at the same time indeed swaps the keys...

Two keys don't work

Shift and enter are two heavily used keys amd wear faster than other keys. On some keyboards keys can be pried up to check the connection. Generally these items have become disposable these days and you can pick up wireless keyboards for less than $20

I cannot find the hash key on my acer aspire one keyboard. the assigned key gives me a sterling sign

Hello
The assainged key for 'hash" is "SHIFT - 3" If it showas any other symbol than this, the inside membrane of the keyboard is faulty. You should contact the deler or Acer service center to make it right. OK.
Here is it. I'm going to print a hash symbol here by holding down the Shift Key and the press the Digit key (3)

How does one access the @ in order to insert it into an email address when one sends an email? Pressing down SHIFT as I press the 2 key results in getting the " sign instead of the @ sign.

Hi, Solution 1: You can change the keyboard layot from the control panel Solution 2: Try the combination Shift+' button next to the Enter or try all the keys with Shift combination and find the @.

Make sure you do not have several active layout, you might have switch the layout with a keystroke ! Thanks and have a nice day Julien

Extra symbols?

There are shortcuts, albeit usually Alt + a numeric sequence. Visit http://www.pcdon.com/page3.html for a full tutorial on the subject matter.

Hope this helps!

Some keys on my Dell D610 have swapped their functionality when the shift key is pressed - @ and " in particular. Can I swap them back?

Go into Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages Tab, Details Button, Change Default Input Language to English - US, and remove any Keyboards listed that are not English US. Most likely you have set a French Input as a default. Once chnages are made, log out of Windows and log back in.

Problem in Keyboard Keys

You appear to have your country settings/keyboard layout wrong on your settings..

Goto Start - Control Panel - Regional and Language Settings
Select the Keyboards & Languages Tab and then select Change Keyboards.

Set your default input language to whatever you have (IE mine is English - Australia)

Click Apply then OK

Messed up keys

try hitting the left alt and the left shift button together, then try it out by pressing shift question mark. I had the exact same problem and i think you can alternate between french and english keys by hitting these two buttons together.
