Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

Only uploads certain photos?

I just connected the Rebel to my computer via the USB cable. I used Microsoft's Import Wizard to upload my pictures. Turns out only 42 pictures uploaded...and I have about 100 on my CF card. I don't understand why only 42 of the pictures uploaded while the others did not. I also went through Picasa to see if maybe it was just Microsoft's program issue, but through Picasa only 42 pics could be uploaded too.

Does your computer have enough space for all of the files? If you've checked that it does, you might try using a different program, such as Adobe Bridge. As a Canon user Canon's Digital Photo Professional is free (unlike Bridge), and it can allow you to see thumbnails of the images on your card. I've heard from other users to be sure you're using your camera to format the CF card and not your computer- somehow that affects the file storage system on the card. Good luck.

Camera not uploading pictures to laptop

The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Uploading problem

There are a few different ways to upload them. I have found that when I connect the camera to the computer, sometimes I get scrambled photos. When I use a card reader, connected directly into the USB port, I get all good pictures. If I connect the camera OR the card reader to a USB hub, at least half of my pictures get scrambled. I take 3-4 thousand photos in a years time. I was happy to end the problem.

Use a card reader to download your pictures. It may solve the problem. After you do, format the card in the camera. Be sure you use a high quality card.

How do you upload a picture taken without a card on your Canon Rebel XT?

The rebel comes with a mini-USB adapter cable. Just plug it into your PC and the camera, and the PC should see it as a USB drive. Then copy or move the images as you would any other files. If you do not have the cable, they are available at Best Buy.

Don't have a disc!!!

Greetings 0918,

There are several options to connect your digital camera to your computer to upload your pictures. One method is to connect your camera using the supplied USB cable. Most operating systems will have a built in photo program to at least import the files to your computer. The other option is to purchase an external card reader. You would hook the card reader up via USB and then insert your memory card into the reader, which prompts uploading of the files to your computer. Most card reader units come with uploading software.

Thank You,
