    Hi,

I have an identical model HDD which I dropped. However,I managed to recover around 90% of my data. The drive vibrates a lot and there is no clicking or other sounds except the vibration. and takes some time to send any data left when I cut and paste to my PC. I connect it via a 2.0 USB external HDD case.My OS is Windows XP sp3 and fully updated.

What do you think could be the problem thats causing the intense vibration? The transfer of data slows down after the drive heats up.heat buildup is very fast, around 10 to 15 minutes. Can this vibration problem be solved? The drive is just 4 months old.

    Thank you in advance.

When disk does a noise like click click, that meant the hard drive heads are broken. Harddrive hardware is broken, data cannot be recover easily when it is like that , if the HDD contained very imprtant data you can send it an HDD data recovery.
Here is an HDD data recovery company in uk

This is the picture of a broken head:

Try the hard drive on another computer to see if it is the external or a laptop interface problem. There are EIDE/SATA to usb adapters that you can connect a hard drive to that the computer will then read as an external hard drive. The problem with external HDDs is the usb interface built into them, these are mounted on controller cards and that is ususally where the failure occurs.

Lacie 1tb ext hd. drive does not show in disk

Your external drive has 2 parts, the hard drive, which is just a normal hard drive you would find in any computer, and the usb bridge, which connects the hard drive interface (either ide or usb) to the usb or firewire or esata or whatever. Sounds like one of these are bad. Does the computer see the bridge? it should show up as a mass storage device in device manager and the safely remove usb devices dialog. If not, then get a new enclosure for the drive. These range from 25-100 dollars. If the bridge does show up, take apart the enclosure and pull the drive out and try hooking it up as a second drive in your computer. If it works there, then you need a new enclosure. If not, then you need a new drive.

Hard drive arm not engaging click click click then ding ding din

The drive is pretty much ruined if you removed the top and exposed it.
The only chance of recovery is to send it to a specialist. You can not fix this drive, nore get the data off. They may have to remove the plates and install it in another drive to recover... or replace the electronics.

In anyway you look at this, it will be a very costly thing to recover data.
Sorry, but can not help you with this.

WHAT DOES THIS NOISE MEAN?

More that likely the drive is dying?? :-( ..

Usually the 'click, click , clicking' noise is the 'actuator' trying to read the drive.. One old trick that workings sometimes is to remove the HardDrive from the enclosure. Put it into several ziplock baggies and put it in the freezer over night (colder the better). quickly remove the drive and put it into a computer. Sometime you can read the drive for about 10-15minutes. But this trick only works about 20% of the time.. The only other option is DriverSavers.com (about $2k -- Yikes!!! ) :-(

Packard bell share and save 3500 hdd tone and no response

I'm guessing that there was a short circut. The drive got too much power, and it wasn't expecting it so it short circuted. In any matter, you must get a new drive, for the one you have now doesn't work, and there is a small percentage chance that it will ever work again. However, if you go to a computer store, they may be able to recover your information on your drive and put it on the new one. Good luck.
