Are the headphones plugged in? It is probably the "scratching" noise you get when the headphone jack is moved while plugged in. Mp3 players are notorious for this effect.

My zune 120gb has got stuck at contact support and i have tried to restart it but it would not even go off until the power is dead

If you hear clicking or grinding from the Zune it's a broken hard drive. If the drive sounds normal, you most likely need a new logic board which can be replaced without problems. There are third party Zune repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI Zune repair guide, soyoucan do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is availableon Ebay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do itfor you.

I have Zune 30GB mp3 player. When I try to charge it using computer or wall charger, it tries to turn on and makes some clicking sound and turns off again. It does it repeatedly but can not charge it.

the zune does this if the battery doesn't work (needs a charged battery to power on). battery is either defective or disconnected. there is a zune repair guide that shows you how to fix it

ZUne screen is black!

Ah, these are old posts and everyone has probably solved their dilemmas by tossing the player or returning it. So, in the interest of getting these posts off the grid...

.. "mellojanelle" & "Guest on Jan 11: Y'all plug the Zune in. Software is not open, you should get the Main menu on the device screen. Software *is* open, you should get "Connected" on the screen. You get nada, except for a "clicking" sound (which should be heard from the back or the front.
.. That is your hard drive screaming thru its death throes, I think. Maybe try this, or this, and finally, this.

.. "Guest on Feb 21": Well, heck, try the above links, too. I don't think your HD is goin' on the fritz, is all.

30gb zune only has black screen

Try these ideas first, except calling for service since it's out of the warranty: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931912. If this doesn't work then, you'll have to erase all the content on your Zune through the buttons on it and use the Zune software to restore the firmware and getting it to boot again. If this doesn't work, then the hard drive may be bad in the Zune and will need to be replaced. If the hard drive is bad, you'll usually hear a lot of repetitive clicking. I hope this helps.

Zune

To reset the zune you must press and hold the back button and the top part of the zune pad. Other parts of the zune pad will not work.

When plugging the zune into your PC does the PC detect it (device manager -> portable devices). You should hear the ding sound of hardware connecting.

If it is connecting to the PC and is not detected by the software than it is likely a permissions problem. Right click the software icon and choose run as administrator.

If it is not detected by the PC than check your usb cable and make sure your zune is charged and not frozen.
