USB ports fail - no mouse or keyboard on start up on hp pavilion desktop p6000

some older computers don't load usb devices until after windows is booted and in such instances usually a traditional ps2 mouse and keyboard (green and purple plugs respectively) are the best option to enter the bios or boot from cd/dvd

Lost my set up directions...can't connect mouse or keybord...they only have usb ends.

Hi ebdaly...
Most all keyboards and mouse connections now are usb connected.
Just plug the usb from the keyboard or mouse into a usb port on the computer and you should be good to go.
The drivers for the keyboard and mouse are built in to your computer if you have XP/Vista/7,so they are "plug and play" items
If it does not work on your computer then you will have to have an adapter like the one show below for the mouse and keyboard, you can find these at Walmart,Staples,OfficeDepot,this one is from ebay.

Can I use a mouse and keyboard with a USB port?

Hi,

Yes, you can use a USB mouse and keyboard. Just plug those devices at the back of your computer. Restart the computer if the devices do not respond.

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

PLEASE HELP.. KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ARE COMPLETELY DEAD

If you can bott the computer normally and don't have to type a password in, then go the control panel and then choose device manager. Scroll down to the mouse and keyboard plus signs and right click on the mouse and keyboard one at a time and select uninstall. When the original mouse and keyboard have been uninstalled, reboot the computer. When Windows starts back up it will be forced to search for the new hardware and will install the drivers for it. If it wants to search for new ones allow it. If you have to type a password, you will have to go and get a usb keyboard that works off one of the usb ports. If this doesn't work, reboot the computer with the Vista disc in. Click any button to boot from the cd. When the windows files load and windows starts, choose repair, choose the windows installation and let windows search for problems and see if it can fix them. If all fails, go to system restore and back the computer up a few days and let system restore fix the problem by taking you back in time a few.

Mouse and keyboard have no power

If your mouse and keyboard work properly with another computer or laptop the problem could be :
A) if devices are USB :
- defective USB port : chose another USB port;
- USB port inactivated in BIOS : check and activate;
- motherboard defective : replace motherboard.
B) if devices are PS/2 :
- damaged PS/2 ports : buy a PS/2 to USB adapter for your mouse/keyboard or buy USB mouse and keyboard;
- motherboard defective : replace it.

The ps2 ports for both keyboard and mouse do not work. i got around that by hooking both up with a usb connector. BUT when the computer is on with no mouse activity for a while, the mouse ''dies.'' Then...

HI,
Go into the BIOS utility and set the BIOS to defaults, hit F10, save the changes and exit the BIOS, the computer will restart, see if that helps.

To get into the BIOS hit the Esc or Del key when the computers just starting up.

Good luck.

Mouse and keyboard not working / recognized by computer

Hi,
If its an USB keyboard and mouse, try to insert keyboard in upper port and mouse in lower port USB.
Sometimes when they Both are inserted in port in same line, they are unable to Fetch equal amount of power.
Try this and do restart your computer, after inserting them in USB ports.All the Best

Keyboard

It seems that your motherboard had or say nearly to its end... but you can use USB-keyboard, that's one way to solve it, or a USB-mouse. But before doing so try to disconnect the mouse and use use computer... if it works, then it's either the mouse or keyboard will be transferred to a USB port.
