Eureak Altima how do I open the darn thing!!!

Hi,

My eureka is no longer getting any suction using the brush portion. I'm trying to open it to change the belt or just clean it. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to open the bottom and get the brush off. Can you help? Thanks.

Hi! I have a Eureka Maxima (used, belt broken) I just figured how to open. his opens from the top. Two screws on the top are loosened with a phillips head and the cover gently pried off with a flat head. Belt was easy to put on. I sat on floor and braced unit with my feet to pull the roller withthe belt attached to it's appropritate slot. I hope this helps. Good luck! I hope this works for me and you! Betty

Make sure that the brush is turning freely and that there is no thread or lint preventing it from turning. Do not run the motor in this condition, you will burn the belt out.

My eureka vacuum won't suction and starts to smoke when I try to use it. It sounds like it is suctioning when I first turn it on, but after about 20 seconds it begins to smell like burning and does not...

The problem is that your belt is stretched and worn. This causes that burning smell and it also causes the vacuum to not pick up well. You need to replace the belt. Here is the belt you need and the manual with instructions:

I have a Eureka Altima and not sure how to change the belt?

1) Use handle release to lower handle
flat onto floor
2) Remove 2 screws from the front side of
brush roll cover
3) Lift and remove brush roll cover .
4) Remove brush roll and belt. Thread
new belt around motor shaft and
brush roll
5) Insert left end of brush roll first. Make
sure square on brush roll cap is in
place. Pull right side of brush roll to
stretch belt. Secure right end cap into
base.
6) Rotate brush roll 2 turns to center belt.
7) Replace brush roll cover
8) Replace 2 screws

And you can get the maual here.

Low suction on Eureka spinduster vacuum cleaner

The belt has stretch enough so as to not drive the brush roll under load. Try a new belt.

Smell/suction

The brushroll may spin when looking at it but stops when pressure of the floor is applied. The belts stretch, so they look fine but are not. The smell - if it's a rubber smell - would also be the belt. Some, or most, brushrolls can get hair in the ends that could also cause a smell and belt problem.

Burning smell/lost suction

Is the brush roll turning while on the carpet. If the belt is old, then it has stretched and will slip causing a rubber smell. But if it is an electrical smell, then your motor is failing and will need to be replaced.
