2nd request - Dell 962 All-in-one Printer - from glass top
I am not able to scan or copy anything on my Printer. I am able to print or scan anything from a file with no problems. The color and black & white mode work just fine. But when I scan or copy something from the glass top, it comes out all black with vertical gray lines. The scanned or copied material is barely visable through the black. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi,.... I'm having the same problem as sharon_mi334. My Dell AIO 962 does not copy, fax or scan...but prints. When attempted(copy, fax or scan), the output is a scanned image or a print out that's completely black. When I looked at the "scanner light unit/ copier camera" or what-ever it's called ... the gizmo that moves across under the glass plate,... I noticed there was NO light coming out of it as it should on any other copier, etc. Sooo,... is that the problem, ie: unable to copy the image? If so, can I fix that by replacing a bulb or a particular unit? Looking for some advice and thank you for your help and time.
If you get black pages output from copies there is either light getting to the scanner (from an outside source) or the scanner itself is damaged. Most likely the latter issue. You can try puttnig a couple of extra pieces of paper on top of your scanned document before scanning (place the image directly on the glass, throw a few pieces of paper on top, and then close the cover. If the issues are still present there is a hardware failure with the scanner device itself.
That is a sound approach you offer because, 1.) Cleaning the Carts. usually solves streaking, 2.) Cleaning the strip on the read glass fixes lines on the scanned images, 3.) You may have a saturation of ink inside the conveyance rollers that is soaking everything. You don't want to know how hard it is to get all the ink out of a wet printer. Replace it, save the hassle.
"Inka" is right. Lift the auto feeder, and on the left side of the main scan glass, there is a narrow "filter glass" that is only used with the auto feeder. It only takes a spec of dirt to cause a solid line. Clean it, and all will be good!
you need to go to your printer settings and make sure it is set as the default printer for everything. Make sure it is also set as your default scanner. you may also try lightening the image with the lighter/darker setting on the machine. if this continues, you may want to see if a section of the light is burnt out. this wiill cause darkness on scan & copies but not printing from the c drive. Make sure the machine is lighting up completely when is scans or copies. If part of the lighting is burnt out it will be a fix or replace situation.
