i have an acer aspire 5100 and all it gives is trouble. first it used to start and then the screen goes blank. their support folks say do recovery ....did that; worked for a minute. now it alternates betwen a blank screen and 'pxe-e61: media test failure; check cable' at start up. what cani do?

I have the exact same problem. The only difference is that I had no warning. One moment my computer was working fine, then I put it to sleep as usual and when I came back to it later in the day it was giving me the PXE-E61 error. Now every time I try to turn it on, I get the same message, and it won't start up. I have gone into BIOS, made sure all the drives are enabled, and I tried changing the bootup priority (making the harddrive first, as was suggested on other computer websites). I don't know what else to do.

when I turn the computer on it says media test failure.

OK this is the only way I can get my P.O.S Acer 5100 to work and it does NOT always work...

First off, I downloaded an updated Bios (3.10) it was from the Acer U.K. website and the program to flash it..(caution it may fry your computer) but i was ready to gut this thing and send it back to Acer with a thin layer of horse S*&T on top..there customer service in non existant for this modle....

after flashing the Bios I did a full system recovery from the disks I made when it was new...restarted it and it WORKED....

well it worked for about 2 weeks then the "media cable error" message came up again...if you get the Acer screen hit F2 and you will see your $800 laptop is not detecting the hard drive or dvd rom...hit control alt delete to restart and TAP the right side of the laptop above the hard drive HARD as it boots...if you get really lucky it will work until the next time you move it...seems to be a bad connection near the hard drive...ALSO..my P.O.S has the built in webcam..it will work until i move the cam, it seems to short out the laptop, i get the blue screen of death and it will restart...
if you do get your running I sugest coping all your files, pictures and anything else you value from the hard drive, formate it and SELL IT ON E BAY AS-IS...most bring around $200 for parts and go buy a Dell...

Acer is total ****, mine has been back to Texas for repair 4 times and is not out of warentee..they said I should of bought the extended warrentee, I asked why you people have had it more then I have...you should replace it for free...no responce from Acer...

OH and the left button on the palm rest fell into the laptop after 2 weeks and they refused to repace it for free, said it was user damage

hope this helps you with your POS Acer media connection error

Hmmm..sounds like a bios issue...F2 when you start..and then check the drives to see that they are all present and enabled.

This problem also seems to be related to built-in wireless cards.

I get this on an acer 4315 and the systemm starts to boot but hangs with a wireless card problem.

I get an error message on startup on my Acer Aspire 5100, it says Realtek RTL8139(x)/8130/810x PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE...

It is beacuse your Hard drive is not detected on the computer properly.
Try resetting BIOS.
If that doesnt work, Check whether your hard drive is good.

My Acer Aspire 5100 keeps rebooting. This is what the screen says: INTEL UMDI PXE2 REALTEK RTL8139 PCI FAST ETHERNET CONTROLLER PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE PXE-M0F: EXITING PXE ROM That is all...

The error message means that your system is trying to boot from LAN ie... Network boot enabled in your BIOS.

Since the system can't find any where to boot from. It is restarting.

Also probably your bootloader on the harddrive is corrupt. Please reinstall the operating system using a CD/DVD.

I GOT THIS MESSAGE TODAY PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE WHEN I TRIED TO BOOT MY ACER ASPIRE 5630 THIS MORNING. IS THERE A QUICK FIX FOR THIS? EXITING BROADCOM PXE ROM OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

It is trying to bbot up using network boot because it cannot find OS on the hard drive, you can turn off the network in the BIOS setup page, but more likely you have problem with the hard drive or the OS is corrupted.

Acer Aspire 5100-5674 won't boot. Keyboard won't work, mouse initializes. PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure then PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM I really need some help, I just bought it. And would really like to...

PXE errors are generated by the network boot ROM. In other words, the boot process is attempting a network boot (your BIOS' 4th boot option), which means that your system was unable to boot from a HDD, CD-ROM, or USB device (the first 3 boot options).

PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, System won't boot:

1.Go to Bios Settings
2.Remove LAN booting from booting options...For laptop ,type "X" on the LAN booting option.
3.Save The configuration

Also verify if your harddisk is detected by BIOS

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

check your harddrive, is it detected in bios ?
if no, it could be motherboard or hdd, but most of the time is hdd problem, so just replace it.
if yes, your operating system is corrupt, so you can reload your operating system.

Acer aspire 5630 wont boot up

it may be that the harddrive had broked, or is not properly mounted. Try removing it and then reatach it. what operating sistem do u use ?!

also try booting with a linux live cd and see if it can accesc the hard drive, if it cant, than thatşs u're problem. If it can, than u have to find out what PXE-E61 is (what component), and then test it (i presume is the hard drive or the optical unit)
