Question about Sanyo DP32746 32 in. LCD Television

Sanyo LCD TV DP32746 no picture

Picture went black, sound is good. Assume from my research CCFL(s) are bad. Attached is a picture of the set with back panel removed. Could it be the Backlight Inverter? Guess it makes sense to change the bulbs first since they are less costly. Appreciate your help greatly. Brad

I am having the same problem. When I hit the power button, the backlight flashes on for a second near the bottom but goes right back off. Sound works but no picture. How do you diagnose if its the bulb/bulbs or the backlight inverter, or some other component??

I have the same problem, but my Sanyo model # = DP32647. It's also a 32" LCD screen TV. This afternoon I went to turn it on, the "backlight" flashed and the channel ID showed up, but then the screen went black as if the set had been turned off. Sound comes through fine, channels change OK (by the audio I hear, anyway), etc.

    So what is a ccfl?

I am having trouble finding ccfl's to replace the ones that are bad. I have the Sanyo DP32746 lcd tv. It is a 32" tv with 16 individual ccfl's. Each one is very small diameter, about the size of a pencil lead. I have sent an inquiry to Moniserv, waiting for a response. The lcd backlight panel is a AU Optronics Model number T315XW01 V.5. My fear is the panel and ccfl's are sold as a unit which is going to be way more expensive than replacing ccfl's. Any suggestions??

    ikenfixit,

So if I understand what you are saying, then if one of the ccfl's goes bad they all go out, kinda like christmas lights that are in a series circuit?

Updated firmware and reset the TV, during the diagnostics scan I got a "sos:01" result highlighted in red. I did a little research and this probably could be a faulty inverter board, does it makes sense to you?, what about backlight?

Easy way to Diagnose is get a known good CCFL from a laptop or LCD TV and start plugging it in to the existing Cathode's Ports one at a time. Generally its a bad CCFL on these multiple units.. (2,4,6) Bulbs.. Moniserv.com for replacements.

Goodluck guys!

Its a safety circuit and built into the Inverter for some reason. These usually have at least 4 Bulbs and yes if one goes out the inverter suts down.

Sanyo sets have a horrible track record, if the set is still under warranty return it. The problem could be in either the power supply or main board. It will have to be diagnosed properly to be sure.

Sanyo ce32ldy1b lcd 160gb black screen with sound

It sounds like you have a power supply problem, this powers the inverter! Where you just replaced the inverter, we could assume it is good! Look for some bad caps (capacitors) on the power supply board. They will look bulged on the top an may be a little leaky (brownish stain). The power supply can fail on some output and be good on others. Was the back light inverter new? If all else fails, see if you can return the back light inverter and get another! I hope this is helpful!!

The power button lights up but no sound or picture.

Check to see if the set is under warranty or an extended warranty.

If not, ouch, but do-able.
From least to worst case, possibilities include

1. Bad panel drivers (between the Y-Sus PCB and Panel)
2. Bad Y-Sustain board or equivalent.
3. Bad power supply.
4. Control PCB.
5. Bad Panel.

Or any combination of...

I would recommend that you have a certified and factory authorized technician repair your set. Or at least diagnose it. Not always is it just replacing a board. There are adjustments that need to at least be verified by a knowledgeable technician.
Wouldn't want to get zapped. There is High Voltage back there.
You might also try entering the make and model number of your set online to search for others with like problems on the same model. Odds are that it has happened more than just once and that other techs may have a definate solution to your problem.
Just takes a little research.
Good luck.

I have this tv as well with the same problem. From the research I've done, one of the 16 ccfl's(backlight bulbs) goes bad and they all will not come on then. I have not been able to find a replacement ccfl for this particular tv. The ccfl size if 3mm x 711mm. I have a feeling the scope of this problem is very large with this particular tv and this forum represents the tip of the iceberg. Sanyo unfortunately makes a piece of junk and we have that piece of junk sitting in our homes with no good solution other than to say, dont waste your money on another Sanyo tv.
