No. Lots of printers are guilty of this s---. Manufacturers want you to use their product so they can hose you.

Check this out in google for solution to this nonsense. Canon will not, for obvious reasons, help you.

How to fix error code 5200 on canon printer MP258? what is 5200 mean?

Here's the procedure. This code is normally encountered after refilling an ink cartridge and replacing the cartridge. Turn off printer. Hold down Stop/Reset button with one hand and turn printer on with other hand. After green light comes on for the ON button, press the Stop/Reset button two times and you should see the green light blink off and the orange alarm light blink "on" with the first press and then the green light comes back on for the power button and the orange light goes off with the second press (if you did it correctly). Now, you need to hold down the ON button about five seconds, then let go to shut OFF the printer. When you turn it back on, the printer should be back to the factory original condition. Make sure you set all your printer properties the way you want them again from your printer properties dialog boxes because some of the settings may have been stored in the printer's EEPROM, which you just reset to get rid of the offending alarm code.

Canon iP 5200 orange light flashing 5 times

    Hi
IO have one of these printers as my daily workhorse. Thankfully I haven't had the problem you are having.
Did you remove the print-head from the printer and clean it with running warm water?
When I get a possible print-head problem I always do that, rinse it until the water runs clean. Then dry it on kitchen roll making sure that the contact on the back are completely dry before refitting it to the printer. Generally this has cleared any problems (I have several Canon printers - I'm not just referring to the 5200 now).
However If you still get the error it may be worth contacting your nearest Canon service centre. New print-heads are not exactly cheap but these printers are so good it's worth keeping it going. They will probably be able to diagnose the problem quickly and accurately and tell you if it is cost-effective to repair. I don't know what would be involved with the Eprom error. - probably a circuit board change inside the printer.

5200 is an abnormal temp. rise in the printhead. Not related to your other problems, but you need a new printhead. QY6-0063-000. Around $50.00

Try cleaning the pick-up rollers with rubbing alcohol. Use a rag, soak it with rubbing alcohol, then rub it on the rollers. Try to spin them also. If that doesn't work, then you need to have the printer serviced or you can try and change the pick-up rollers.

What does error code 5200 means

ok and error 5200 ushally means it has something to do with the printhead but we are going to try this just because it is the easyest and known fix for this error.

First off unplug the printer from the computer
    secound turn the printer off
third unplug the printer from the wall
    wait a minute
plug the printer into the computer then into the wall then turn the printer on
    do a test print

This should have solved your problem but if it didnt please let me know and I will see what other things we can try to help you fix this issue.
