Here's two previous posts with similar problems..
This problem does not mean a
disk drive has broke 90% of the time, the
most common issue is the
ps3 files being corrupt. To solve this problem
firstly back up the data on your ps3. Go to system settings> backup
and follow the appropriate settings,i advise using a usb stick or hard
drive to back up your data.
Secondly under system settings go to restore ps3 and follow
instructions. This will erase all the data on your ps3 and restore it
to its factory default, this will restore all the original ps3 files,
it will basically install the ps3 OS again.
After re- installing the ps3 install the latest updates and try your disk again.
If your ps3 now recognizes a disk go back to system setting>
backup, select restore previous back up and all your saved data will be
imported from the hard disk.
Sony does state that not all saved data
can be imported e.g.copy righted content, however i faced no problems
and was able to access all saved data including saved
games when
restoring.
If this solution does not work contact song for further
assistance, if this solution does not work it is likely to be hardware
support, usually the lens that reads the disk, sony will instruct you
on who to contact to repair the fault machine. When out of warranty
their is usually a cost unless it is recognized manufacturing fault.

I have the now famouss problem myself and reading about it made me
realise that there are a lot of people living this hell. I want to
make an official list of player having this problem
to see the magnitude of it.The problem beiing:
You played mw2 (or another game) with the latess update installed on
your ps3 and at some point it froze. tried pressing the PS button but
nothing happened. You had to hold the power button to reset it or
resolve to switch the back switch off/on. Only to get this same problem
over and over again. you can t play
blu ray on your ps3 and/or get the
error 80010514. from time to time it will play those blu ray only to
start the whole problem again.
your blu ray lens is not
dead.. the problem seems to come from another part. It could be a
corrupted SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE caused by Sony's 'Online' Updates.
