The XBox 360 is a wonderful video
game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser (and/or other components in
the drive) will eventually burn out.
The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start
freezing during game play. Eventually the games will stop reading altogether
and you will get an "OPEN TRAY" message when you put a disc in and close the
tray. What this means is that the XBox 360 thinks that there is no disc in
You can find more information about this issue, find parts to repair it, or send your system to repair all at the following website:
If you have never opened your Xbox 360 case you can go to http://service.xbox.com and have it repaired. It might even be under warranty since microsoft has extended their warranty on the 360's. It sounds like the cd portion of the laser is bad. This is common in game consoles like xbox and sony playstations.
Ok, i'm not really sure why your system is doing this, or how to exactly solve this issue. The best way would to be to call Microsoft (1-800-4MY-XBOX) and have them fix it properly. (They may actuall do this free, shipping included.)
