Question about Nikon Coolpix 4300 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Pictures are black

I think the camera may have fallen off the chair yesterday. Today when taking pictures (with a fully charged battery) I can see all the picture mode displays just fine, but cannot see anything through the view finder (it's totally dark). I continued to take pictures, hoping they were being captured anyway (the flash went off, the camera sounded like it was capturing shots), but when I uploaded, the pictures are there, but all just black.

Am I hosed, or is there a solution? I saw someone suggest the reset all to another poster and so I tried that, among lots of other thing... no luck so far... any advice??

I just recently dropped the camera. Now have the same systems as Jennifer problem. I can go adjust menu but black is all what I see on the LCD screen. I tried taking pics through the eye lens to see if it would take pics but once uploaded to my laptop, it is just black. Help! Anyone with a solution?

My 4300 works fine until this week. No picture display on the LCD screen. Settings like date, exposure, etc.. are fine on the LCD screen. Able to get into setup mode and the colour menu selection box is fine. This shows that the LCD screen is working fine. Prior to this happening, I notice that when I took pictures in zoom mode, the picture turn out to be orange. I suspect this is caused by electronic failure. Light entering the lens cannot be transmitted to the LCD screen. Some photoelectronic stuff had reached its MTBF (mean time between failure)? Is there a way to save this camera?

Why does my fully charged battery show only a 1/4 power and only alow me 3 pictures before it dies?

How old are your batteries, and are they Canon brand or a cheap eBay type off brand? Most times we see this the batteries are old and won't hold a full charge or are cheap off-brand ones.

Has the camera been exposed to intense moisture or fallen into water. Water damage can drain a battery quickly.

There is a software adjustment to set the battery inhibit voltage, but you will have to take your camera to Canon as it is proprietary software only they have

also check for bent CF pins

Camera won't turn on to take pictures~

This is a common problem related to batteries. Use 2100mA or higer batteries fully charge batteries. This problem occurs when you use alkaline batteries or faulty NiMH batteries. To solve the problem try with new fully charged NiMH batteries.

Sometimes when i try to take a picture - the camera won't let me - a flashing hand appears on the display screen and it won't let me take the picture - i have the camera on auto adjustment - i just want to...

If it is set to auto then about all I can think of is low light pictures and you may have the flash disabled or the battery level is too low to power the flash .

Try taking a picture in bright sunlight and see if it behaves. I can't recal if that model disables and enables the flash with the menu or if it has a button on the case looks like a lightening flash. And don't forget to charge your battery

Camera still takes pictures but LCD screen remain black(lit, differnet from when screen is off) at all times. Batteries are fully charged.

Please make sure to check if the battery is fully charged. Second, check the menu option for battery saving mode and turn it off. If the battery is getting old and not charging fully anymore the priority of the camera is the shooting mode.

Won't take pictures

I would suggest the first thing do is to replace the batteries with new ones. It sounds as though the batteries are low (perhaps they won't charge fully anymore) and that is why your camera is switching off.

It is always worth trying the simple things first :)

If this doesn't work and your camera still won't switch on please post back.

Brand new batteries, take a few pictures, then batteries die

It may be something more serious, or your new batteries may be defective, but the problem you describe is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a clean cloth (heavy corrosion buildups may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment, clean the contacts at both ends of the batteries, and reinstall them in the camera. Assuming that the batteries are fresh/fully charged, this takes care of about 90% of the startup problems. I hope it works for you.

Canon DIGITAL IXUS V2

The problem is the iris is stuck.

The solution is:
1. Move the camera to TV mode(the wheel with AUTO,M,TV,...)
2. Set the exposure time to 15 seconds(15")
3. Take a picture.
4. After 7 seconds remove the batteries and put them back on.
5. Repeat the procedure until it works.

Flash issues

It means that the battery is charging the flash! Wait a while and it should stop. Then take your photo.

Do make sure your battery is fully charged.

Not taking photos?

See if you can display pictures in playback mode. If you can then it is probably the CCD sensor that is faulty ( either no image at all or heavily distorted pictures on you led screen in capture mode. camera should be repaired free of charge if it is the CCD block since properly manufactured one lasts 15 + years.
