yes, movie making mode is clean, so does that mean that the lens doesn't need cleaning. if i need to clean the lens, do i just use a dry cloth? if i need to reformat the memory or disk, how do I do that? Thanks.

  • tdefauw Mar 17, 2008

I just reformatted, but I still have the horizontal lines when taking a picture

so is it toast then? should i just get a new camera?

Two issues..

lens is dirty..

or the memory or disk is needing a reformat.

you say that the movie making mode is clean?

you can do both from the menu, with a format disk option..

forget the lens..it's on the parts..

well..then if it's not the lens, then you'll find it's deeper inside..good thing these things are not too expensive, eh?

SOURCE: horizontal lines in photos

Take a look at this thread (the best solution by "techman"):
http://www.fixya.com/support/t103590-white_line_across_image

It appears many vendors have had complaints and the result is a CCD (image sensor) failure when exposed to high humidity and heat.

Hope this helps...

Unable to take photos

Hi,
Your camera is having horizontal lines due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems.
Just tap on the side of the camera at times the horizontal lines will disappear.
If the problem is due to your dropping the camera, you might be out of luck.
If you have not dropped your camera and still facing this problem, then contact service people to replace the CCD imager in your camera .

Hope this helps .

Canon SD400: horizontal lines and daylight images are overexposed (see photo)

In both the situations the problem is with the apperture control mechanism of the camera. 1). sometimes the flexible ribbion cable carrying signal to the lense assembly get worn out, replacing the same will resolve the problem. 2) in some cases the leaf blades of the apperture gets sticky, cleaning of the same solves the problem. 3). If you happen to drop the camera then the alignment of the motor moving the blades get disturbed.

In all the cases only a good repair man can fix the problem .
