Ok u just have to reseat the ram ....if u know how to open the notebook and locate the ram u can go ahead and reseat thr ram .....try this if the issue is still not resolved then go reboot the notebook and keep tapping F8 key ..it will take u to BIOS select the HDD and hit enter and run a short test on the HDD if it passes then the HDD IS OK then go ahead and restart the system and keep tapping F11 it will take you to recovery manager ..click on advanced option and mark a check on systm recovery and click on next....then select recover without backing up......then click on next........it will reformat the HDD and restoire it back to factory settings if any of the steps does not work then call the hp 1800 no and ask to be transferrred to notebook department..and if u r in warrenty then go ahead and ask the tech guy to bench the system for o.s reload .....if u r in warrent then u dont have to pay a single penny everything will be done for free.........if u do ahve any other query u can email me at gunjan37@hotmail.com

Hey, seems your harddrive partiton has corrupted.

If you have the installation cd of your windows. You can try
repairing windows from the repair console with the command. CHKDSK it might not perform the scan at first try it should tell you how to force a scan even thought the disk seems ok.

If that doesnt help your only option is to reinstall windows.
A repair installation should fix it but if it doesnt your going to need to perform a full install.

Do you have your windows xp cd...can you boot using that disk...if so, can you do a repair at all...

Is it asking you to run chkdsk /r/f or anything remotely close to that, or is it just the blue screen of death?

What were you doing last? Did you make any hardware or software changes>

You should be able to do a clean install of Windows. Just insert the installation disc and press any key when indicated. Optical drive needs to be the first boot option. Go into BIOS and change it is not.
As for disc, you have to use the same Windows version as indicated on the MS Product Key sticker, because of the serial number.

Aspire 5475 freezes on startup

It is most certainly a driver, but if you cant access the safe mode also that could be a hardware issue.. Try to troubleshoot with a windows installation cd. Put it in and boot the pc. It will start the windows instalation, you choose repair computer and not install windows. The command prompt will open, try to troubleshoot from there.. Thanks!

The windows files are corrupted or the hard drive has issues, load cd installation disc if available, if that fails have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

I have hP mini 1000 that won't boot up windows. Just shows me Hal.dll error message. How do I fix that if it won't start.

you will need a copy of windows and an external disk drive then have it boot from the cd when it boots select install windows then leave the current drive intact with no changes or if the repair option comes up you can select that. do not select the repair at the first menu unless you are an expert in dos, always go to the install.

Won't boot

Here is the cause, and I think you will have to re-install the operating system. Not knowing your machine model number, I have no idea if the operating system recovery is imbedded in the hard drive or not.

If you receive a blue Dell line across the top of the screen during power up, press F11 to see if you can get into the recovery mode. If so, just follow the instructions.

Laptop won' boot up.

The blue screen means the system is experiencing a fatal error... a error from which it cant recover.... so while booting press f8 and boot using safe mode... then analyse the startup programs of your system using Start->Run and then typing msconfig in the window that appears and then going to the startup tab... one of your latest installed program might be misfunctioning....
