i have the same exact problem!!! i don't know why but everytime i turn on the TI 83 plus, i get a dark, blank screen with pixels filled in. None of the buttons work, and the only ones that do, are the ones that turn it on and off. I've tried replacing the batteries, but it still doesn't work!!! please help, I really don't want to buy a new one. Thanks!

I am having what I think is the same problem. I have included a screenshot of what I see when I turn my calculator on. Only the on/off functionality works. 2nd -> Quit does nothing. Changing the contrast (2nd -> up or down) also does nothing.

Also, I have tried removing all of the batteries (including the backup), for varying intervals, up to 24 hours, and still nothing. I tried 2nd -> Mode nada. 2nd -> + -> 7 -> 1 -> 2 (reset memory) also did nothing.

If it is a screen with a pattern of dots then it might be in a graphing mode with a grid showing, does pressing 2nd quit do anything? Have you tried removing the batteries and the lithium battery and then putting them back in, let me know the outcome of these trials and I will try to figure this out for you

Only the on button and shade of screen works

Sorry to hear that you all are having problems with your calculators. I don't think that resetting the units will help. You should contact TI.

Frozen, 'snowy' screen...HELP!!!

The only solution that I can think of that might work would be connecting the Ti to another Ti of similarly close models and use the "sendOS" function on the working one, this should reset the crapped one to a functioning setup.

This does require the special wire they have for connection 2 calculators together... probably can get it on ebay or something if you don't have it already and just borrow a friend calc in class or something...

Calculator Stuck

Hi. I suspect your calculator BIOS is corrupted. Still looking for the download for that though. Do you have a USB link cable? If so, plug in your calc and check your device information. See if anything comes up.
