Set vcr to record after timer is set

You need to turn off the Timer and then add your new program to the schedule. Then turn the Timer back on (power off).
On most VCRs, the Timer is enabled by turning off the unit. Thus turning it on will work (as long as a program isn't currently being recorded). If a program is currently being recorded, press Stop to interrupt the programmed recording. Then add your new program - that doesn't conflict with other programmed recording or exceed the number of available timed recordings for the unit. Then turn off the unit.

At least one VCR I owned was a bit trickier. You had to press the Timer button on the remote instead of the power button.

I hope this helps.

Timer runs correctly until it hits the tripper, then it stops and wont turn the lights on. I can push through manually, but is the timer defective?

Sounds like the motor is getting tired. Before investing in a new timer , use a little light oil (NOT WD40 because it will deteriorate the electrical components in time) to lubricate the mechanism.

Tv wont turn on only clicks and then flashes red timer light

Well, I have found out that the number of red light blinks is a "blink code" that indicates the nature of the fault with the TV. Usually these are various failures of internal fuses or circuit boards. There's a fair amount of information on threads at techlore.com on this, so try searching there. Teh specific codes and manuals are usually it seems under license from Sony and not available for free to the public. Sorry!
