My problem is that after i installed the hp officejet j4680 on my emachines workstation, the monitor started to turn off on and constantly. It goes black for 2-3 seconds and and back on for a minutes then black again 2-3 secs. Any idea why this happens? i am running xp and ie 8

log on to the net and download drivers for your specific HP pronter and install in your pc. plug the cable after installation then reboot your printer. it should work like a charm

I don't have a photosmart, but I do have an HP OfficeJet J4680 that clicks sometimes. Check to make sure the ink cartridges are installed correctly. That's what is sliding back and forth when you turn it on.

To scan from the device control panel (direct connect)

1. Load the original.

2. Press the left arrow or the right arrow to select the Scan function, and then

press OK.

3. Press the right arrow to select what to do with the scan, and then press OK.
4. Press Start.

Please install the printer software and try to scan via the installed software from the computer. Or, start scan using scan button from printer; after installing software.
