I would check for an obstruction in the drain line. Under your sink, find where the drain hose connects to the main drain. Remove the drain hose, and stick a small screw driver into the spout of the main drain and see if there is any food build up.

Whirlpool dishwasher WDF520PADM5 won't drain. It will run through a cycle, but leaves a few inches of water at the bottom.

If the garbage disposal is clogged, the water from the dishwasher cannot drain. Most of the time the dishwasher drain hose is connected into the garbage disposal. Check to be sure water flows freely into the garbage disposal. You should hear it running into the bottom of the disposal when the dishwasher drains. The line connects to the garbage disposal at the top of the disposal with a hose clamp. If you undo it take the hose off and make sure the punch out inside the disposal tube is all the way punched out and there are no restrictions in their..ie stuck food particles or something else. Unplug the disposal when working on it. Just to be safe.
Hope this helps.

Standing water in dishwasher

Good Afternoon friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that you have some standing water inside of your Frigidaire dishwasher. It is a normal operation to have anywhere from 2 to 3 inches of water inside of the tub of your dishwasher. If it is anything more than that you could have an issue with the drain pump or drain line.

You may want to check the drain line for any restrictions or clogs that could cause improper siphoning from your dishwasher. You should also make sure that the filter located in the bottom of your tub is clean, that could cause water to stand within your dishwasher. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

DIshwasher doesn't drain. 3-4 inches of water sits in the bottom

A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.

Many dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever, sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly. Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain valve diverts the water.

Other dishwashers simply reverse the direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the pump housing.

Water left in bottom dishwasher and after resetting to wash will not start unless the water is drained out manually

GE Dishwashers are equipped with an anti-syphon ball that generally dislodges itself and goes into the drain line. To remove it, you'll have to pull it out of it's hole. Turn the supply off and open the kick plate. Remove the supply line from the dishwasher and the drain line free from the air gap. Remove the two screws that hold it to the counter top and pull it out. Remove the lower rack and spray arm. To remove the spary arm you have a 1/4 inch head screw to undo, and on the back of the spary arm is a plastic clip. Use a small screwdriver to depress from the spray arm and pull the spray arm off. There are then two 1/4 inch screws that hold the food screen on and remove the basket. Now, underneath the dishwasher is a large manilla-colored hose with a large hose clamp that must be loosened. Pull this loose and a bit of water as well as the ball will come out. Reattach and drop the ball into the left hole under the basket. Reconnect everything and slide the dishwasher back in. Reinstall drain hose and supply line. Turn on supply. Run and look for leaks.

Dishwasher does not drain

My dishwasher will not drain. The water stays in the bottom of the dishwasher. When it should drain, I do not hear anything happening where I used to hear the pump working. Is my pump bad?

My dish washer does not drian completly

the water must pump uphill to the air gap. the last water in the line drops down the hose, and is in quantity equally to the volume of the hose from the bottom of the pump to the top of the hose. that flows to the bottom of the sump in the unit. if enough, it appears as residual water in the bottom. its ok.
