Question about Magellan eXplorist 500 GPS Receiver

Configure NAND on Start up

When I start mu Explorist 500 this is what I see on the screen< "Press ENTER to configure NAND. Press ESC to cancel." When I press ENTER I get a message telling me "Configureing NAND" then the screen goes blank. If I press ESC It goes directly to the blank screen. The darn thing worked fine yesterday. The only thing I did between then and now was charge the battery.
Any body have any ideas?
Oh yes what the heck is a NAND?

My eXplorist XL is locked up

Error message at start-up reads: "Press ENTER to continue NAND, Press ESC to cancel". Either choice I seclect and the unit shuts-down.
"With you XL turned off press nav + power; then change the numbers in the box from 00 to 95 by using the joystick and then press the joystick itself; (ENTER), accepting what is proposed...

Either FORMAT or SCAN... LET IT RUN!

After turning the gps on again and pressing enter the NAND will be configured and your gps will become in order again. Your system will immediately start to re-set itself.

If necessary, in usb file transfer mode, reload the basemap in the directory background maps..."

The only difference is that I had to load my SD card in the unit for it to work during the FORMAT.

My unit is NOW re-booting back to normal!

Help Explorist 500 jammed (locked up) wont even turn off

To speed things up a bit with frozen Explorists, you can undo the battery cover and pull out the battery then replace and start again. I have had to do this many times.

NMEA communication does not work ( but file transfer is OK)

Try rebooting windows, with gps off connect the cable to gps.

Go out side get a good gps signals on nav menu.

Set the gps communications menu to , nmea, 2.1

Plug the device into a good usb port.

If you look under modems, in control panel you should see a new modem called explorist xxx

If you look at the properties for that you can see its com port number.

I just tried this program http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPS/

and it views nmea from the explorist, just set the com port to the one in the explorist modem .
