We have the same promblem as the article you responded to in the RCA tv. My question to you is how do we remove the Silver Box from the TV? Do we pull it out or unscrew it? We are afraid to break something.

these silver boxes are the tuners for the televsion. at the shop to remove these you have to remove the curcit board these are on. Once you get the board out. the tuner can be removed by unsoldering them. Depenending on the damage to te tuner it may be possible to replace the connector. I like to atleast try. You can also replace the tuner slightly more expensive but essear to do
Sounds like you have a bad screen asy, this is located under the plastic were the tubes come up thru the plastic, its in the right top corner and has 6 turn controls on it,part number is 204809,this part must be generic, the part has been discontinued by Thomson.
The silver box is called the TUNER. Call an RCA distributor, such as Union Electronics or Herman-Panson and order it by description by asking for the tuner for your model number. Have the location number on the board, just in case.
