Does it do the same with another PC? Just need to narrow down the problem before start taking the monitor apart.

My suggestion is going to be if you have another computer that you can hook up to the monitor and see if it works for it then the problem would be not the monitor but your computer. As it is telling you that it is not recieving a signal. If it still doesn't work then it will be something wrong with the monitor or the cable connecting it.

I'm thinking your video card is sending a signal the monitor doesn't recognize.
You'll need to start the computer and hit F8 until you get the black and white menu. Choose the VGA mode and it should work well enough for you to adjust the refresh rate or the resolution to get the monitor to work

What cable do I buy

If it is a dvi monitor then you would need a dvi cable. VGA monitor would need a VGA cable. HDMI monitor would need a hdmi cable. If it is compatible with both dvi & vga and your video card has a dvi output then dvi is a better quality than vga. You can purchase the cable online at a store like cables2go. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Cables usually give up first. If you can substitute the cable or another monitor try that. If you see the same thing on the monitor, you have eliminated the cable. If you have another monitor you can beg borrow or steal from a friend, try doing that. If the problem still follows, then you have eliminated the monitor and the video card is the only thing left. If your PC has a built-in video card then the motherboard is toast

Power light steady green but monitor goes dark after 4 secs of video

The video card in the computer could be going bad too or the driver for the video has corrupted. Try reloading the video drivers in the PC first.

power supply is bad on one of its legs(12 volt or 5 volt) you can have that bench tested at a service center or use a volt meter to check the output on the cables probably the 5 volt as the agp and the dvd roms cdroms etc need 5 volts to operate

Can't use DVI with monitor

You have 3 ports on your graphics card(VGA - 15 pin D-Sub x 1, DVI x 1, and S-Video x 1)Now if you want to use DVI just connect the DVI port to your monitor thats all..
Enjoy!
