Question about Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 AMD Phenom Socket AM2+ 3000 MHz Motherboard Retail

1 Answer

Trobleshooting Hello, I have a problem concerning proccessor AMD Phenom 9500. My system gets stuck while is loading something or even when the screansaver starts, sometimes gets stuck simply without doing nothing and rearly restarts on its own. I have also problem with some games becauce they get stuck too. I had updated the BIOS and it looks little better but the problem hasn't solved. I have the ga-ma790fx dq6 of Gigabyte for motherboard, a DDR 2 /2 GB ram of Kingston running at 1066, an ASUS GeForse 8600GTS for Graphic card and a Thermaltake 750Watts powersupply. Do you really think that the problem has to do with the AMD, the Motherboard or with anything else ???? Please response...... Thanks

    Thanks for your response.

I have a Thermaltake case with a 14cm front fan, a 12cm back and one 90mm fan on the window. As you can understand there is enough airflow but i had checked through the BIOS that the CPU temperature goes at 45 dec. . You think that's a problem ?

I had the same issue with my AMD Athlon 3800+ dual core. I found that I wasn't getting enough airflow to keep the system and processor cool. You may want to check the heatsink and fan rating for your processor unless it was sold in a bundle. Also, On AMD's of such power, they tend to run hot if overclocked. Look into, if you haven't already 2 case fans to go along with the processor fans. I recommend a 90mm in front and a 80mm in the rear of the case. If this doesn't help, let me know.

Need bios update for amd dual core 3.2 or phenom 9600

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=498#cpu

Only the cpu on the list, will fit the mainboard.

Others will be not be compatible with the mainboard, and a bios upgrade will not help with that.

Good luck

AMD Phenom II X4 model 920, uses .0875 to 1.425 Volts, (DC),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Phenom_microprocessors#.22Deneb.22_.28C2.2FC3.2C_45_nm.2C_Quad-core.29

That is the average voltage range for the AMD Phenom II X 4 processor.

Look back at the AMD Phenom chart again on Wikipedia, and look especially at the voltage range for the 900e to the 945.
Now look at the ECS CPU Support page again, and you'll see your motherboard supports Phenom II X4 processors from 900e to 945.

Since the 910e and the 925 are supported, I know the technology of the 920 is supported.
The Core architecture and nanometer technology it is based on, is supported.
No BIOS update may be needed.

Yes is the answer.

[NOTE*
That processor can use up to 125 watts of power. You need a decent Power Supply.
That processor also gets H-O-T!
Make sure it has a GOOD cooling system, and the computer case inside, and the Power Supply, inside, are kept clean ]

Vista may be the problem. I used to have vista for couple years but actually downgrated to xp again!
You should download a program called "glary utilities" it is a free download.
It will clean your registry, optimize registry and boot up times, spyware and adware removal, system defrag, temp files cleaner and way more!
This program will dramatically help improve boot up times.
Also Check your start up items to see what is being loaded all at boot up time. You are able to disable some programs and delay others as well. There is also a setting on glary utilites that does this

Videocard not working

Try removing the new card, booting into BIOS, change your video setting the slot of your card: I believe your card is PCI-E, save changes and exit. When it starts to reboot, turn the computer off, install the new card and then try rebooting again. You may also have to boot into Safe Mode\Uninstall the original video driver or disable that video component and then try rebooting your system.

Case fan runs on standby

If your case fan uses a 4pin molex instead of a three pin which pluges in to the board. Than that's why it only shuts off when the system is powered down.

Troubleshooting

How long have you had the system in that configuration? It doesn't seem to be a heat issue running around 45 degrees unless that is the idle temp. I need you to try something, when it shuts down, immediately restart the system in bios and look at the temp for the processor again. I solved my issue by taking a side off of my case and putting a small desk fan blowing directly into it. My idle temp went from 45 down to 27 degrees celcius. In a perfect world, the cooler a CPU runs, the better the system will respond. Find those temps readings for me, and let me know. Also, there may be a small monotoring program in your mobo set up disc to help monitor the temp while windows is running. And also, double check to make sure your processor fan is plugged into the correct spot on the mobo, mine is mislabeled, another issue I had found and corrected.
