Question about Philips PET824

No Disc message

The player will spin the disc for a couple seconds, saying "loading", then it will stop and say "no disc". Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip, it did play a cd but wouldn't work on the dvd after trying both......Guess I need to hunt Philips down to fix it. Unfortunately since I bought it online, they pulled a new card saying "we won't warranty items bought online as they may be refurbished". Philips is bunk, what a stupid policy considering that 40% of purchases are made online these days.

Shows "loading" -- with no result...does not shut down... just keeps "loading".

I had exactly the same problem with my PET824. At some point I found that the player only plays CDs. With DVD it looked like it simply does not detects them as if there were no disk at all.
I tried the two recomendations posted here. Unfortunately I tried them both at the same time so I don't really know which one helped, but now player works fine and reads DVD again, even DVD-RW and DVD-R DL.
First, I moved the whole laser assembly to the most far point away from the center and second I rubbed the lens of the laser with a cotton swab soaked in pure (70%) alcohol, despite how carzy this might sound, but, yes with pure alcohol and these two steps worked like a charm. First thing I noticed that even loadind CD now takes twice less time as it used to be.

The player purchased at the end of 2006 and was in moderate use.

Turn off the power.

Open the lid and gently push the laser mechanism to the outermost point of the slot.

Power on and try a disc again.

Also try cleaning the laser lens with a mild foam cleaner and cotton swap. Leave to dry and re-try a disc.

If neither work, then the laser is probably faulty. If the unit will play CDs but not DVDs, then this is a good sign of a faulty laser.

Pioneer DVD 717 - Not Loading Discs Whenever I load a disc, the player spins the disc for a moment before slowing down. to a stop. It repeats this around four times in succession before it then opens...

Hi msaslloyd ,

This could be because of a damaged lens , where the dvd player tries to recognize the disc but is unable to do so and then either sends the disc back i.e. the tray opens up or the message no disc loaded is displayed.

I suggest you to :-

  1. Clean the lens with a lens cleaner available in the market and load any disc in the player to check if it's working fine.
  2. Get the lens replaced from the market and the problem should be solved.
Hope this helps ..:)

I am receiving the message "no valid disc" on the dual screens...

it appears yous direct drive motor is damaged. When a disc does not spin, it will say the same as a bad disc. You can easily get this fixed, but not cost efficient. Better off replacing it the component.

Head spins and say "Loading" but then says "No Disc"

I cleaned the lens, but I also tip the play upside down with the disc in it and it seems to work.

SONY SLV-350P DVD PLAYER/VCR COMBO

I'm afraid you are dealing with a weakened Laser on the unit. The cost vs. benefit ratio of fixing this unit is not worthwhile.

You will find that there are newer versions of this device on the market less expensive than what you paid for the unit you have now.

Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.
