Signs & numbers that pop up and make sound when is made
About two weeks ago, my tom tom started to make an alarm that sounds like a kuku clock and flashes a $sign and various numbers. For instance it will flash a $ sign and the number 1.12, then the $ sign remains and the number will change to 3.0. What is this and why does it happen.

Hi, The reason for your Tom-tom V2 not to have sound is due to a bad connection to the speaker. I am sure you have tried to reset the set. If yes please try to do the bellow mentioned steps. Now it’s risky to take the back off as it is easy to damage screw poles if screws are tight. There is no guarantee that the problem will be fixed by tapping it with the back off, you can tap the back of the case where the speaker is anyway. Lots of tom-toms have sound problems and it’s the cheap and nasty speakers they put in them in the first place. Better to take it to a service centre and if its warranty make a claim You need to unscrew 4 torx crews and pop out the back cover slowly. Remove the speaker's wire connector and check speaker resistance 3-4 ohm. Next reattach connector firmly and did a speaker test in volume preferences menu Thank You for using Fixya.com
Think I have sorted the problem out. I read some of your readers' solutions and it was mentioned that it may be advisable to log onto the GPS update. So, I installed my disc which came with the pack and followed the instructions to download the GPS update (and also took the opportunity to download other updates which took some time). Anyway, used the sat nav this morning and so far, it appears to be working normally now and the signal comes on in seconds!
I would call tomtom and see if they can send you a new battery sounds like it might be bad,is the green light showing that's it charging?if so and the battery isn't holding a charge I would call them and say that it went bad about 2 months ago.Good luck
speakers are very vulnerable on these units along with radar detectors. they get jostled around and broken or garbled.
The unit needs service or you can live without voice as i had to for a while(just got new unit 2 weeks ago)
