Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
It will tell me to update the xbox but when i do this purlpe screen comes on & says update failed, & I tried to put another game in (an older 1) & it comes up as the same friggin purple screen. please help!
I finally found out how to fix this! go to this website :http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4801064/XBOX_360_Update_Files and download the torrent. Follow the directions from the second page of this forum: http://360mods.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=9796 . all you have to do is copy the $systemupdate folder that you need onto a usb drive and plug it into the 360 then turn on your 360. you can find out what number update you need by the number at the botom of the screen or if your like me and dont have those numbers youll have to go back and forth untill it boots up to the right update. make sure your flash drive is cleared out except the $systemupdate folder. go one at a time until it boots up with that update file.

Dont waste time with the sync button... there's what you need: Ask all of your friends for games. Then, one by one, put it in the dvd-rom, and wait, one of them will update your xbox and you'll be happy. Iv'e solved the problem with the game Guilty Gear 2 Overture... =) good luck!

After hours of trying to fix the problem myself I found something that worked. Google 360DashUpdates.rar and download it. Then extract the files to your computer. Start with the top one on the list(the one with the largest number which means the newest update) and copy the %SystemUpdate folder to the root of a flash drive or burn it to the root of a CD. Then insert the update date into the system and reboot it. If it is close enough to the update that failed it will ask if you if you want to update. If it does not ask for you to update then try an older update until it asks if you want to update. If you don't have a torrent program and a program to unrar the down then you can get one update to try from Microsoft's website here. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm

I fixed this same problem by having the disk that the update was on in the 360, then on the purple screen i held the sync button (little round button on front of console) and whilst keeping it pressed in i powered off the console, then whilst still holding sync button i powered on the console, seemed to do the trick
