Jvc av-48wp30 convergence problem

I have a red convergence issue with my av-48wp30. i see that there are numerous postings about bad stk392-110's......i replaced both and turned on the set only to find absolutely no change on my screen. after closer scrutinization, i noticed a smoked resistor, number r846.....which is marked 1.5 ohms (J)......after a trip to radio shack, i was unable to find a 1.5 ohm resistor.....anyone else have similar problems? where can i order one of these and what is the part number? also, how do i enter the service mode to adjust convergence? i know how to do it with the remote, is there another way? oh yeah, one more question.......what is the white button on the convergence board for?...thanks for any help!

thanks for the advice........i found a website that listed the part numbers and the schematic, went to parts.com and ordered the correct resistor, installed it and the tv works great! i'm thinking the resistor was blown when the original ic blew and i missed it when diagnosing........thanks!

I have a similar problem that I think will be the same. We came home from vacation to find that our 48 inch JVC I Art Television is bowing at the top creating a green and purple color over much of the picture screen. The tv is five years old. I have been reading the information online and have contacted a repair center who said it is most likely a convergence problem. I am, as you read this, trying hard to find a picture schematic of the inside of the tv to attempt a repair. I have placed a service call and am waiting for a time for the tech to come out and advise me of the actual problem.

1. if the 1.5 ohm resistor was open, then you may have fried your new convergence ic's. Sorry
2. bettween a 1.5 - 1.9 ohm resistor will work
3. press sleep button, set to 30
hold down video status button and press display on remote
select convergence from the new menu and hit OK.
Do fix the convergence before you try to align the convergence or it will look horrible after you get the circuit fixed and will be harder to align.

The white button is there because the DCU (digital convergence unit) can be erased by holding that button and turning the set on.
I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THAT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this Helps.

I had a convergence problem on my JVC AV-48WP30, and followed the instructions posted by SD Tech. I used STK-392-150 chips and I replaced 1 burned out resistor that had no bands, but was marked 1.8 ohm J...

Yes, it does not happen often but you may have installed or got a new chip that is bad--you did apply heat sink compound to the new chips?

Check all the resistors carefully when you do this and double check all the soldering you do.

If the convergence Ics and resistors are good its most likely related to the velocity boards that are attached to the Red CRT convergence yoke. Its the small board about half way up the neck of the CRT. If you need one let me know as I have a source for JVC boards for that model.
